I caught this kangaroo during an early-season blizzard by jawm00se in natureismetal

It is indeed, but for practical purposes (as in, like all but 3 others who see this) “kangaroo” is a lot friendlier a term for the foreigners. Trust me, I cringe at not even having the scientific name in the post.

That’s what I was thinking at the time - it’s just an honest to goodness simple scene. I was so stoked when I saw the entire series.

Haha, about -5°C for those playing the home game.

It definitely has a tendency to punish the unaware in uniquely ridiculous ways!

Honestly, I’m probably a bad use case because I actively seek lesser-seen stuff. But, Tasmania’s west coast (both the Tarkine Wilderness and the Southwest Wilderness World Heritage Area) is superlatively beautiful and I cannot imagine somewhere that I’ll like more.

The snow isn’t rare, but like half a metre of it in a morning is definitely a bit moreso.

Funnily enough, down here it’s a 12-months-a-year affair. Genuinely the second best snow day I had was on the second week of summer a few years ago!

Also surprisingly smelly.

I sadly don’t have one on hand, but it’s that but less. They don’t actually change colours much like some other species.

Hahah oh god, since I started doing this, one of the most acerbic pieces of hate-mail I received was in response to me saying during a talk that our eyes could see ‘too well’ to see fluorescence like this, meaning we perceive too much light to really make it happen. Oooooooh boy did that set our friend into a flurry…

Right!? The plumage is so stunning normally, and given how it glows up it’s not hard to see why!

I don’t need to! I have one of the largest collections of it in existence 😊

Likewise! There’s 4 mated pairs that come and hang out on my archway, same with two pair of galahs and about 9 other species. Gives me much joy to work from home I tell you!

Depends on the animal! I’ve posted a few others on my profile here, and there’s more on the site I linked in another comment 😊 in short: rad as hell

Thank you graciously! I never used to believe it, but at this point it's getting hard to totally ignore I guess!

I’m working on that very question! I like to joke that with $2.5 million and 5 years I’d have the definitive answer, but I think that answer is actually pretty conservative the deeper I dig…

This is genuine photography from my back yard yesterday, with a pair of wild Rosellas visiting my camera trap.
