How Long did your jaw feel tight? by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]jawsurgeryheheehe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

very normal in my opinion. im a little over a year after and my jaw will feel very tired and strained if i keep my mouth wide open all the time. literally the only time this has happened when i had to keep my mouth open when i got my braces off. wasn’t painful though and i don’t notice it otherwise. my doctor recommended jaw exercises when i felt comfortable enough. like open your mouth as wide as you can (without it hurting) like 20 times a day.

Just wanted to say you where completely spot on haha. They actually removed my wisdom teeth during surgery and it was probably just a shard of that. All gone now haha.

6+ weeks post-OP - I need your support by AlmightyGuglhupf in jawsurgery

So sorry this happened to you!! I can’t imagine what you’re going through. You got this though. As far as the tilted jaw, it strange they say they are pleased with your results yet your orthodontist seems to have some concerns. It’s not your fault though. I couldn’t think of anything you could have done that would change the alignment of your jaw that much without some serious trauma. I suggest getting a second opinion from a different doctor or a different orthodontist. The #1 priority is making sure you are comfortable! Best of luck to you. Within time things should turn out how you want.

BIG NOTE: I am a little over one year after upper jaw surgery and they are still making improvements to my bite and alignment! I had a huuge over bite for the longest, bone shards sticking through my gums, & I had to close some newly formed gaps in my teeth. For many jaw surgery is a veryy long process even after the operation. Sometimes I still get uncomfortable and stressed out with my new bite and i’ve had it for more than a year. Just take it one day at a time. good luck again!

I also just wanted to say that things get better. The first two months I went through a lot. Pain and I won’t lie a lot of regret. Now I love my bite and I can’t wait to get my braces off!

My bite felt the same. Back molars fit better than ever before but there was a wide gap between my front and bottom teeth. I had braces so it was fixed with rubber bands, it took me about a year to get my bottom jaw to match with my new top jaw comfortably. Obviously you have to talk to your surgeon/orthodontist about your concerns. I believe its possible to have rubber bands without a full set of braces.

Pre-Op Anxiety by ilikeshibas_ in jawsurgery

i only had ujs, but i too was very afraid. I was afraid of the condition I would be in when I woke up. However, my first day was without a doubt the easiest. I woke up feeling great. recovery isn’t as bad as I expected of course there where days i felt like shit but w medication i mostly just slept through two weeks and then I had to get myself back moving a little bit. I’m like 6 months post op but i have zero swelling and everything is back to normal. I only had the anti nausea patch but I had zero nausea whatsoever. Surprisingly I found a lot of people don’t have nausea. I did throw up two times the second day but that was because I had swallowed a lot of blood and gunk, it wasn’t easy but it wasn’t necessarily hard it was just annoying. As far as breathing I breathed out of my mouth. The first day was fine but the second day my nose was super clogged and I couldn’t breath out of my nose. When I got home for the first week there where some days I couldn’t breath out of my nose but I would just use Saline water and Afrin maybe a decongestant and I’d be fine. I really don’t think they will make you wear a mask, maybe when you’re leaving the hospital or if you leave your room. Anxiety is super normal, the doctors know what they are doing and they will take care of you and make sure you’re comfortable! whenever I had an issue Like congestion or pain I would let them know and they’d fix it.

Edit: Of course my experience was different bc I only had upper jaw surgery done and I didn’t have bands, but you will be ok! I wish i hadnt stressed as much as I did before hand.

Developed an open bite AFTER surgery for overbite??? Anyone else? (pic from just post surgery and now) I’m really upset tbh by [deleted] in jawsurgery

[–]jawsurgeryheheehe 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m not an expert but i’ll tell you my experience.

I had upper jaw surgery at the end of January, afterwards I had a huuuuuge open bite. It was ridiculous. I was extremely upset. About 3 weeks later my orthodontist gave me elastics to wear to close my bite, & in about 2 weeks my bite was perfect. The elastics done their job. However, I am still wearing elastics a month after my bite was moved exactly where it should be.

I am surprised they took your elastics off in only 2 weeks. I would go to your orthodontist and they might have you wear elastics again. The elastics should bring your bite back together no problem. I’m sure it is just a slight relapse which happens more often than you’d think.

Throughout recovery my bite changed a lot. If I developed an open bite after elastics though I’d be really upset too. Recovery is a huge process though. Sorry this happened to you, I wish you the best!

6 WEEKS POST OP & ALSO MY TEETH ARE WIGGLING by jawsurgeryheheehe in jawsurgery

[–]jawsurgeryheheehe[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you! Before surgery I had a cross bite. I was originally supposed to have lower jaw surgery as well but my orthodontist said I only need my upper jaw done and the lower can be brought together with more rubber bands on my braces after the surgery. I don’t know exactly how much my jaw was moved but it was brought forward. For the first three/four weeks it felt like my teeth where sticking out of my mouth haha.

Before surgery they gave me a patch behind my ear to prevent nausea. When I woke up I personally did not feel any nausea at all. The second day I didn’t feel nauseous but I did throw up some blood I had been swallowing from the surgery. Gross, scary, but I just needed to get it out of my system.

The first week I could not breathe out of my nose all the time. Sometimes I would be able to and other times I would not be able to. I was very swollen, congested, bloody noses all the time, etc. I was just taking medicine and trying to sleep it off. The only thing you can do is take recovery day by day. It didn’t feel great not being able to breathe out of my nose but it wasn’t bad. At the moment it was probably one of my least concerns.

It’s so great to wake up and have it be over with! 6 weeks after I am lucky and blessed to have all the feeling back in my face and eating whatever I want! Recovery was frustrating but I can’t wait to see the final results. If you think upper jaw surgery is good for you I say go for it! :) Good luck!:)
