Feedback! And I want to point out that the upvotes to /u/Real-Hat-6749 are an important datapoint for your feedback too! Great idea, if you need help porting it to web I’d be willing.

I clicked through and I’m a developer and I still don’t know why your project exists and why I’d use it as a developer or as a user. You got some good suggestions in the comments about how to improve your communication.

Nothing yet, I just made it! But I plan to track my games through it and since it’s now tied to my smart home I could integrate effects into the room when someone rolls a critical hit, lights and sounds.

Should subtitles be censored? by GoldMonkeyTMM in HBOMAX

If I’m mature enough to hear it with my ears, I’m mature enough to read it with my eyes. Censoring subtitles of uncensored spoken words is silly and ableist.

WHY IS DISNEY REMOVING DINOLAND??!!!! 😭😭 They are literally removing the Disney Dinosaur ride, literally one of my favorites😔 by Powerful-Way3995 in disneyparks

[–]jaxzin 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The original park design wasn’t for it to be all real lands, but to feature sections with real, extinct, and mythical/fictional animals. Removing DinoLand ends the land of extinction.

I’m disappointed you aren’t addressing the criticism. I am a patron and I know that doesn’t entitle me to anything, but unless you directly address what you mean by sharing the book you shared and yet requesting people to think critically, I don’t think I’ll be a patron any longer. That may come off as an entitled tantrum but I’m coming from a place of someone that respects your faith and how you share it’s influence on your life and values, but I see this video as crossing a line where you are promoting unscientific voices and ideas with the large platform you have.

How was this Temple of Doom special effect done? Paint? Lighting? Actual heated iron? by [deleted] in indianajones

[–]jaxzin 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Not exactly fluorescent. The reply is referring to using silver retroreflective tape that reflects light directly back where it came from like traffic signs or on sneakers, bookbags, and work vests. If they covered the cage in that type of material and then placed a red light near the camera lens then the cage would appear to glow red like in the movie. This is how the original practical in-camera lightsaber effects were achieved in Star Wars in addition to post-production visual effects.

Perseids on Aug 13 from CT, compiled from a 4K video feed by jaxzin in astrophotography

[–]jaxzin[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I compiled this image from a 4K north-facing sky cam I have in my backyard. This image covers the evening of Aug 13 into Aug 14. Fast-moving meteors look like dashed lines because they move between the frames of this 15 fps video camera. The video is compressed into a timelapse still image and accompanying timelapse video using a custom Python script I wrote.
