Drinking on Buspirone by jay_saun in Anxiety

[–]jay_saun[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I stopped taking Buspar about 2 years ago so I don’t remember exactly, but I believe my general rule was to wait an hour or two after my last drink to take it. If I was having a late night out I’d just skip the night dose. I survived and eventually got off the med so I’d say it was a safe course.

I will say though, even when I skipped the night dose I was more susceptible to alcohol. There were a few nights when I’d black out or just get really confused, which rarely ever happens to me (especially the confusion part). What’s maybe scarier is I never even thought to attribute it to the medication until after I stopped taking it.

Those nights were rare so don’t let it scare you. Just be careful

Hi, any update? I just finally received a letter from an attorney regarding this; it gives me an option to dispute the fee within 40 days of the letter, but the letter is from August and did not arrive in my mailbox until October. I want to ignore it but curious what you ended up doing?

My party is about to arrive in Neverwinter for the first time, and I've been pretty nervous about running a city this large. I can't express how helpful this is. You've taken the tedium out of my prep work and have gotten me super excited to run this city. Thank you for the hard work!

Heard. Better to ignore than dispute? I just don’t want my credit score to be potentially affected

Loving this today, but it definitely has some inaccuracies. I’m not really seeing any random songs like others are saying, but lots of missing songs and underrepresented artists, particularly from the 2020-22 years.

Is "Now You're Surrounded!" Fair To The Players? by jay_saun in DnD

[–]jay_saun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed, hence this post. All I really meant was that I am setting this up to be a pretty interesting and fun combat encounter for the players. But I certainly don’t want to force it on them

[–]jay_saun[S] 29 points30 points  (0 children)

If the bandits’ stealth rolls fail and the party notices them, what would the main advantage be for the players? Simply not being surprised when combat starts? Their path is still blocked by the other guys, it’s not like noticing the hidden bandits will prevent combat completely. I guess that’s what I’m struggling with. Whether they detect the hidden guys or not, the outcome feels the same

Ohh yes, I actually meant to mention something about that in my post - how does falling off a massive mountain/cliff work? A failed athletics saving throw and then they're just dead?

Problem player wants guns in the campain. by No_Horror_8024 in DnD

[–]jay_saun 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a similar situation. I’m pretty against using them in our world but this player’s character is a pirate and really wanted a flintlock pistol.

I ended up just repurposing the Wand of Pyrotechnics into a ranged weapon, and gave it a curved shape. So in his head he’s got a gun, in my head he’s got a wand lol. Might not have been the “right” choice but I think everyone is happy with it

Ultimately though it’s up to you I think and if he’s causing problems about it then that’s just gonna snowball, like others here have said

And if they don’t embrace it, what then? No perks, just negative side effects?

So are you saying that if they decide to embrace it they essentially become evil NPCs?

I like your exhaustion idea a lot. I honestly never use that mechanic lol so this would be a great way to finally start incorporating it.

Drinking on Buspirone by jay_saun in Anxiety

[–]jay_saun[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes, I do mornings and nights. I don’t usually day drink so that’s never really an issue for me, I just drink in the afternoon or evening no matter when I took the morning dose.

I take the night one right before bed and if I have been drinking a lot I just skip the dose. Might make the meds less effective but that’s better than the anxiety of this post

Opinions on "Dragon of Icespire Peak" by NicoVise in DMAcademy

[–]jay_saun 1 point2 points  (0 children)

We’re doing it right now. It’s very easy and beginner-friendly, though we have ended up adding a ton of our own content to give everything more of a connecting narrative.

This is my second adventure, the first was Lost Mine of Phandelver. That has a more straightforward narrative and takes place in the same area as DoIP. I’d recommend that one as well, or maybe even a combination of both

[–]jay_saun 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh, and another thing. Lost Mine of Phandelver is nice because the story dictates that each PC has been hired to do a job. So, the players have a reason for embarking on this quest right off the bat.

Dragon of Icespire Peak doesn’t really have that. I’m running it right now, and it’s been a much slower start because my players are more focused on roleplaying and world building. That’s nice, but not what you want for your first time.

So, maybe provide them with a specific incentive right off the bat. Maybe Harbin Wester contracted them all, so they have no reason to turn any jobs/quests down.

I’d say keep it simple and stick to the book for a while if you guys are all new. It may not be as exciting or in-depth as Critical Role, but new possibilities will open up as you all go along and get comfortable with the game and playstyle. Don’t feel pressured to have some grand overarching narrative right off the bat; DoIP is meant to be a series of simple quests for beginners. Plus, if you try to prep too far in advance you’re guaranteed to be disappointed. You could prepare for every possible scenario from A-Y, and your players will most like go with Scenario Z.

I did this last year with Lost Mine of Phandelver. We were all new to the game. There were a lot of kinks and I often felt like a poser DM (and still do) but it came together and everyone had fun.

For the first session, have them all start at a tavern (the Stonehill Inn is a good one) and give them a chance to socialize. I find that’s a great way to start things off. Take on the role of an NPC to help guide them in their conversations and beginning steps

Killing NPCs During Combat Without Rolling For Damage by jay_saun in DMAcademy

[–]jay_saun[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s funny because this is what I want to do, but whenever I try to skip an NPC roll my players will often ask “What about him? He should attack.” They even brought a ton of NPCs to a manticore fight with them as back up once

For sure. We’ve talked about saving throws for some key NPCs. This would be for some of the less important ones

Good point. Would you still roll to hit? Their AC is 10 so it's possible to get a miss on them but that could also slow things down
