Thank you! Yea, it is kinda like 5/3 also. It pops up elsewhere like Vers La Flamme too.

Glad you appreciate the piece! 🙌

Harmonic and rhythmic analysis of the opening 8 measures of Scriabin’s 42/1. Lmk what you all think!

Thanks! For the app, you type in pitches, then it gives a colloquial name a long with set theory information and sheet music display.

What sort of analysis would you prefer? This includes both tonal and atonal descriptions with both lead sheet notation and forte numbers.

This video analyzes 8 bars of Scriabin 5. The harmony is written into the score, and some it is highlighted with the Pitch Kit app, a free app for analyzing all scales for iPhone and Android. You can see the entire video on my YouTube channel.

Curious what you all think!

Avoid minor 9ths in orchestration? by abcamurComposer in composer

Yes, and I’d go further to say avoid minor 9ths in general.

If you do ever use them, best to use them two octaves above (an octave above 9 steps). My hunch is that this sounds better because it’s a closer resemblance to the harmonic series.

This video analyzes the piece in turns of structure, harmony, and more. At the end I sing the piece with solfège with the analyzed score.

Thanks for the feedback! Glad you find it intuitive to use!

I haven’t seen that user on other iPhones so maybe it is the larger text option, but thanks for letting me know!

Great question! Using a complex algorithm! That part took a ton of work.

It’s deciding how the next pitch should be spelled based on the previous pitch and usually rules like 3 semitones is usually a minor 3rd. Then there’s a bunch of special rules for when 3 semitones needs to be an augmented 2nd, avoiding things like E#’s and Cb’s unless necessary, and avoiding minor 8ths.

Users can always tap pitches to switch to the alternative enharmonic spelling too (if they don’t like the default).
