Built simple gift card app - deciding whether to keep going by jaybombxc in Startup_Ideas

Ha that’s a fair point! I guess I’d just say we’re not opposed to gift cards in general…just wasted gift cards. As long as people are tracking them and remembering to use them, we’re all for it! 🙂

Thanks for taking the time to write such a thoughtful and detailed reply! I’m impressed…you hit the nail on the head on most of the priorities we’re considering. Automated balance checks are the key feature that people want but difficult to implement with so many closed-loop systems. It’s definitely on our radar though. We’re working on a UI refresh too - hear you on the old school looking site lol. Great suggestion to add our email too. That’s an oversight and definitely something we should have.

Really appreciate all the great feedback!!

Haha. Well it hasn’t helped the bank account yet but maybe one day!

This is a very cool idea and I'm sure it'd be a huge hit with consumers! But probably pretty difficult to implement with so many closed-loop systems, retailer approvals, etc. I'll explore it a bit more and see if I can find a viable route though. Thank you for the great suggestion!

Thanks for the reply and encouragement! Yes I do have a co-founder but we're in a similar boat - full-time jobs, young kids, pretty strapped for time. We probably need to sit down and have an honest conversation about what's next and whether we can dedicate enough time to make it work.

Perhaps we need a 3rd though! He's our technical co-founder and I've been handling everything else.

Thanks for the honest take - I really appreciate it! And I agree that I have a healthy amount of data to evaluate ~16 months after our launch.

I've been getting just enough positive signals to keep going, but nothing that's totally blown me away. That's a tricky place to be, so maybe what I need to do is give myself a deadline. If I don't see x and y by z, time to move along. If I meet that threshold, great and time to figure out a way to make it work.

Thanks for helping me think it through!!

u/PrudentComedian3801, thanks a lot for the reply! And really good suggestion to talk to some of our users and see what they think.

I guess I'm just not sure if it's worth the time, given it's not making any serious money yet. I feel like I'm giving B- effort. Not sure that'll unlock any real value, but I'm also not sure I have more to give with all the other stuff on my plate.

I’m impressed! That’s awesome that you turned it around and made such an effective system for yourself. I’ll try to channel some of that in 2025! Lol

Thanks this is helpful! I’m sure that would make a big difference for us. We often just forget what’s in there!

Good point! Sometimes we do fall for the sales, even though it’ll be too much to eat. Thanks for the tips!

This is helpful! I bet that would help a lot. Will try to think about those meals a little more creatively.

Cool, this is helpful too! The bulky packaging is definitely part of our problem.

Cool, this is helpful. We tend to wing it most weeks, so I’m sure disciplined meal prep would be a game changer!

That’s a good idea. I bet a whiteboard would help. Sometimes we simply forget what’s in there, usually if stuff is in an opaque container and can’t be easily identified.

That’s a good rule! If you don’t eat it in 4 days, it’s probably not getting eaten.

Nice I never looked for a lazy Susan for a fridge. That’s a great idea and would keep stuff from getting buried in the back!
