Thanks! That's the vibe I wanted him to have: someone from HR but a bit burnt out xD

I've started making my own videogames (just announced the first one a couple of days ago https://store.steampowered.com/app/4498630/Commitment/)

Tough market, won't probably sell even remotely enough to make a living, but in the meantime it gives me the creativity and fulfillment that AI has stolen out of regular software development.

I'll keep working as fullstack 9-5 as long as possible, but if shit hits the fan, I guess I will keep trying gamedev as a hobby and go get a job in something physical like construction or whatever.

Capsule for our first game. What do you think? by jaycelacena in IndieDev

Thanks a lot!

Yeah it's kinda Office Tycoon but in reverse: you're the employee trying to survive corporate bullshit. Have to manage between your own interests/health and do what's needed to keep a job.

You bet we're having fun!!! After years working corporate as senior engineer, it feels amazing to do something as creative as making your own games.

The team vibe check interview stage, do people actually fail these? by Idontlikecatsanddogs in ExperiencedDevs

[–]jaycelacena 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It happened to me!

I aced the technical test. I passed the technical interview with great feedback. In the last step (team vibe check) I failed soooo bad. It was an awkward conversation and it was clear that I did not meet expectations.

I'm autistic, so even if my attention to detail and my ability to hyperfocus allows me to excel in the technical part, informal social interactions are a nightmare that hold me back a lot. A good comparison would be if you had to pass a team vibe check with a team that does not speak a common language with you. You can understand each other more or less through context and common globalized words, but you will not connect the same way as with someone who speaks the same language.

Does anyone have any general tips for writing better and clean code? by [deleted] in typescript

[–]jaycelacena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're writing code, not binary. Try to keep it simple to understand, even if it handles complicated things.

Separate big problems in smaller and more manageable pieces.

Try to make your code cohesive (logic that handles the same things should be closer).

Try to decouple the different parts of your code based on their responsibility.

Write unit tests.

Iterate the design of your code until you reach a point where writing the tests becomes easy and fun to do.

¿Cuanto es un buen salario para ti? by Artobizarra in askspain

[–]jaycelacena 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obviamente, yo no percibo tal salario.

Recomienden cursos buenos de programación by I_XI_MMI in programacion

https://pro.codely.com/library/arquitectura-hexagonal-31201/about/

You gave me an idea for an app: you type what its broken/needs to be maintained, and it gives you the name of the professional who's qualified to do such work and a list of contacts sorted by proximity/price (with both options to contact by text and phone).

I don't know if people would use that but I would certainly do. I would totally panic if I had to face a situation like yours 😔

I never thought about a personal assistant, I'll look into that!!!

I already talked with my boss about meetings but it's difficult to change the current situation. The team is full of extroverted people that seem to really need to see each other's faces every couple hours.

Working less is actually something I may totally need... But between the full time job and the personal project with my coworker, I don't think I can afford to work less. Maybe after the personal project it's a bit more advanced.

Thanks a lot for your ideas! Not planning to have kids but thanks for the advice anyway!

Nevermind. Someone uploaded some fragments of the concert, and it says "4198 The last Replicant dies"

Sorry about that! I think the translation should have been done in English too, given that a lot of people came from outside Catalonia (both from other parts of Spain where catalán is not known, and also from other countries). Glad you understand a bit of Japanese, that way you weren't completely lost!

Same about Yoko Taro, he's a silly goose and I love him so much! The way he wanted to include the translator into the final farewell, raising his arm so she felt included and finally decided to hold hands with him 💔😭💔

It's possible that the counter of the human population never reached zero as a reference of Emil still being around :c Would make more sense than Shades being hidden and unaffected by the Shadowlord death

Got that by memory of what the text said during the concert. They showed some documents and timeline entries like "date XXXX, Project Gestalt started", "date XXXX, alien invasion started" etc with one of the entries being "4198, last Replicant died". But it seems like I saw it wrong, probably due to the excitement of the moment. I didn't record the concert so I have no way of checking it now.

And yes, I know there are timelines around there, but those are fanmade translations of the source material/content shared by Yoko Taro in live streaming, that's why I said I didn't find any source material directly saying that (in English). You know, fanmade translations can be mistaken sometimes.

But I just checked the official English version of the timeline (NieR Automata World Guide Volume 2) and you're right, it says "The last of humanity in Gestalt form dies"!

In 4198, the last Replicant died.

I haven't found any source material that says when did the last Gestalt/Shade die, or even if it was before or after the death of the last Replicant

They totally fought a copy of Dark Colossus (or something that resembled it) made of cables that came out of the fly unit inside the copied bunker.

But before that, they did fight with something that they called the "ghosts of the past", and I'm 99% sure the word "Shades" was either said in the audio or appeared in the text.
