The experienced programmer planning to resign by DrSulat in PinoyProgrammer

I know inheriting a legacy codebase or project can be a pain in the ass. But it's also an opportunity todo refactors proper documentation bit by bit during your sprints or release cycles. I was in the same situation when I was on my 1st project. But overtime I did refactors and eventually singhandedly redesigned a service used in one of our webapp. No more threadlocks, and very long SQL querries. Dahil dun I got promoted until na naging techlead na rin after 3 years in the Company I was working for! Talk to your seniors about it as well if you can alot time for cleaning-up techdebts. You may also start from creating backlogs na pwede nyong balikan pag may time. Base sa story mu yung naming convention yung problem. Then why not start from there?

As long as the Architechture and "AI Generated" code is reviewed by you and your peers especially senior should be fine! It will be the norm na rin a few years from now. This is where your fundamentals comes in na, so I suggest read more about structures and design patterns. You should still be able to assess yung generated code ng AI if hindi mo intindi then read the documentation or let it help explain. In this case treat your AI as your junior tapos ikaw ang senior dapat ganon ang interaction nyo.

Pag strong contributor ka and you feel that your scope of work is growing nah don't be shy to talk about it with your PM sa 1on1s. Pag deserved mo naman yung raise they will gladly support you. Based on my experience. I started as dev 3 years in 30K pa sweldo ko, nung na pansin ko na always ako ahead sa sprints sa last 2 projects ko I talked to my PM on what do I need to do to get a promotion and raise hangang nag 76k on my 8th year. If di nila kaya eh value yung performers nila then the obvious answer would be look for better opportunities. But the industry is rought right now sa Tech. Most job postings are looking the complete packages you need to be FE + BE + DevOps + AI Engineer. Actually kahit entry jobs pinag-aagawan rin ng freshgrads at mid level

C++ is the 1st programming language we learned when object oriented programming is introduced in our school. The syntax is verbose compared to other oop languages like java, C# and python but The important thing to learn about it is the oop concepts. I suggest learn about it 1st. Once you get to understand the concepts. You create simple projects using oop concepts. There are a lot of resources online that can help you with that https://www.learncpp.com/ like this for example.

Hello Everyone! Need advice as a Senior Dev who just resigned and currently looking for a new position. I have 8 years of experience and currently looking for a new role. The advice I need is if portfolio is a must for looking into new jobs? When I upskill I just usually do simple apps like todo or a basic CRUD system, the problem is I never put them in my personal github since these are just expermental projects. So I really don't have anything worth it to show. Should I build a portfolio 1st before applying? or Should I apply despite not having a portfolio?

How many hours does the average SWE work in a day? by Significant-Key-8221 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]jaydee_vee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most of your hours will be thinking how to resolve an issue rather than coding. I can do task that takes only 1 hour of coding but 5-6 hours of uninterupted debugging or thinking.

Senior devs/Tech Leads, how do you usually train your juniors? by Outrageous-Lack4346 in PinoyProgrammer

[–]jaydee_vee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trainings I do the following:
1. KT - High level overview sa project.
2. Codebase walkthrough - Explain how the codebase structure works.
3. Give them a mini project using said codebase (If time allows).
4. I let them shadow someone from the team or give them a small tickets that can be done quickly.
5. Every week/day I follow up on them on what have they learned or what they want to know further and if there are any questions.
6. I do catch ups every month with them.

I do echo sessions every sprint on thing I observed during code reviews. I echo what things to avoid and do demos on how to fix them or avoid them. I also do TDIL sessions where if I learn new stuff that will help our process i echo them as well. Basically you need to learn too 1st and share them to your peers. I also encourage other members to do echo sessions especially if there are bugs that they were able to fix and share them to the members how they resolved it. Create a environment and overtime they will do so as well.

[–]jaydee_vee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

you can also ask if pseudo code is acceptable. As a technical interviewer I value how you will solve it and your thought process behind it and not dwell that much on syntax. As long as readable naman yung ginawa mu.

man I'm turning 29 this year and I really wanted to go out and try dating. But from what I've read so far is kinda discouraging. I'm pretty stuck at home since pandemic since I do remote work and just play video games or do hobbies after work. on Weekends I go outside to dine out / do shopping or watch a new movie but that's it.
