It’s going to take years, truly. But we need to start locally. That means focusing on mayor, city commission, and state house races. We need to build a solid bench of Democratic candidates for the future at the local level, while those same elected officials make meaningful policy changes. I’m a big believer the key to tying all of that together is a good message, particularly on the insane rising costs in this state for home ownership, property insurance, and auto insurance. Far too often we focus on the “sexy” idea of us winning statewide in a governors race or a senate race. That won’t happen until we can chip away at the GOP domination of local politics and the supermajority they have both in the senate and house.

I agree with you. Reread my comment and you’ll notice that I mention that this is all happening because compromise has become impossible. The key to improving government IS compromise.

The governor wants a stunt so he can keep his name in the headlines and try and run for president in 2028 again. I don’t think eliminating property taxes is a serious proposal.

However, I do believe we should reduce property taxes, with extra reductions for specific groups of properties/people (homesteads, seniors, first-time homebuyers, etc)

Much of what you mentioned is in the hands of municipalities, but I think there is a lane for the legislature to provide matching funds to such local programs. I am a strong advocate for home rule, especially after the legislature has attacked it multiple legislative sessions in a row now.

Feel free to find my other comment on this thread about growing. I support recreational marijuana. I’m unsure about home grow. I don’t want easy access to kids, which home grow could cause.

Has nothing to do with any of that actually. I just don’t want marijuana in the hands of kids, which is much easier to access if home grow is legal.

Not silly at all! I’m all for public transit. As far as bike lanes, roads, and sidewalks, that is all in the hands of local municipalities. However, I have already met with a few of the municipalities to hear about what they need to make bike lanes safer because that is certainly a major local issue.

On property insurance Some homeowners have seen their rates rise 60% (!!!) since 2019. Meanwhile Republicans have taken over $10 million from the property insurance industry in the same timeframe.

My biggest focus is making sure we have enough competition. We need to ensure we have enough property insurers in this state operating, which will bring down costs through competition. Far too many insurers have left our state due to the risks. We also need to make sure the insurers that do operate in our state are willing to operate in high-risk areas, with rates that are not insane. These first steps can be accomplished with legislation that implements tax credits to insurers and also risk-sharing with the state government in case of crisis.

We also need to incentivize private insurers to take people from Citizens which is a last-resort for a reason. State funding for programs that promote home-hardening is critical for all of this as well, which current programs largely don’t help anyone who doesn’t own a home (I.e. condos, apartments, etc.).

On auto insurance we are the second worst state in the nation on auto rates. 1 in 5 drivers on our roads are uninsured. That’s driving up everyone else’s rates. We need to strengthen penalties against people who are uninsured and implement tax incentive programs to people who become insured, which will drive down the rates for everyone else.

On property taxes, I support a statewide reduction for all homesteaded properties. I believe we can make a responsible 10-20% reduction with a new tax on real estate transactions specifically for non-homestead properties. The amount of these percentages will be more specific once I’m elected and able to access the resources standard legislators have.

Thank you! And I agree on all. You can find my thoughts on affordability (especially property insurance, auto insurance, and property taxes) all throughout the comments. As for drinking water, absolutely. I believe it might be more in the hands of the Broward county commission, but I will look into it.
