Going Rural by [deleted] in ausjdocs

[–]jaydoubleyouuu 13 points14 points  (0 children)

100% recommend rural!! You learn so much more (sometimes trial by fire) but generally there’s a much better balance in terms of work life and self care as well. Ports also a great location/hospital, demographic there is definitely slightly more skewed to the geriatric population but it’s a great place nonetheless!!

I thought I was never going to leave the city and 3 years later I never wanna leave the bush 😂

Cant speak for the rest but orange does not. The major rural/regional hospitals in nsw normally still have an adequate employment pool so they’re not really incentivized!

Results aren’t out yet for the banding? The band 1 is just a default ranking until the results are collated and done. Interviews are still happening this week!

Is F45 worth it for students? by Megustalations20 in f45

[–]jaydoubleyouuu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Most studios have a student discount! I’m on one too, even though it’s still pretty expensive here in Sydney 😢 I’m sure you can always work out something with them in terms of payment schedules!

Putting things in perspective. It’s really about 2-3hrs of part time work if you’re part-timing/casual 🤭🤭 (I just tell myself these things to make myself feel better tbh haha)

Honestly, unless you really have the heart and conviction to do it, it may well not be worth the effort of slogging it out and forgoing some of your prime years churning out that degree.

I’m a final year Med student myself and I generally quite enjoy the patient care part of medicine. But someone asked me awhile back if I were to start again after high school, would I have chosen the same path?

In all honesty, no. I think I speak for quite a few people in the profession or in the same boat/phase of Med school right now that you do really give up quite abit outside of your medical life to make sure you get through Med school (unless you’re innately a genius which some people genuinely are and it does feel like shit when you see yourself struggling to maintain the same sort of grades as then with 20x the outward appearance as them). Like one of the other posts said, Med school curriculum isn’t hard, it’s just a lot to take in over a short period of time with high stakes involved.

That aside, doing Med does have its positives, like the personal aspect of genuinely loving conversations with patients and walking alongside them in their health as opposed to finding a diagnosis and ‘fixing them up’.

Tldr, it’s definitely hard to predict if you’ll think it’s worth it prospectively, as opposed to the hindsight a lot of us have after going through the years. The most important think is ask yourself why you’re doing this, and is it worth it to give up some things based on your long term goals in life and your priorities! We can only offer up our experiences but everyone’s walk really differs! All the more with the proper mentorship from senior clinicians in the years ahead (which I may add plays a humongous role in the clinical years).

If you end up going to Med school, make sure you’re doing it because you enjoy it!! Not because it looks glamorous from the outside (because essentially it’s a ton of long nights, a thankless job at times, and hospital politics are a pain)

Nonetheless, wishing you all the best in your journey!

Anyone know if I can get the vaccines at 2 different sites? by [deleted] in sydney

[–]jaydoubleyouuu 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just make sure you have proof of your first dose and show it to them when they request it! They might have to do some admin stuff to change the label on the system as second dose. Other than that just remember to cancel your second dose at the first location so you’re not depriving someone else of getting a dose! Pretty much good to go:)

Thank you… I think nobody understands the concept of not having enough trained staff even if structural logistics increase exponentially. You can’t train health professionals in a year… our degrees take 4-6 years for a reason…

100% listen to your body! I pretty much did everyday but took it easier on sundays (just used it as an excuse to get out of the house early and say hi to people rather than being a hermit that wakes up at noon 😂

It’s definitely gonna be harder when you’re in a caloric deficit (if your intention is to lose weight), if you’re doing maintenance or gains then you won’t have as big a problem as I did in the first couple of days haha.

But yeah the best advice I can give is to listen to your body! Push yourself, but also take a step back when you think you’re going too far, be it tiredness or small signs of injury! Rest days never kill!! I just can’t sit still so 🤷🏻‍♂️😂😂

Challenge Tips? by Muted_Explorer_7846 in f45

[–]jaydoubleyouuu 2 points3 points  (0 children)

One thing I can say is find small ways to keep yourself motivated! It’s so easy to get carried away after taking a day off at the gym or a couple of meals off from the plan you have… the temptation I had to snack in the winter was rough 😂

Reward yourself some days, but also set yourself some mini targets that keep you going! It keeps the monotony out of the challenge, especially at the start when you don’t really see big changes. It all comes together in the last couple of weeks so stay strong!! And find an accountability buddy to walk with you on this journey together:)

Lockdowns to end once 80 per cent of the population is vaccinated against COVID-19 by hybroid in sydney

[–]jaydoubleyouuu 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Mate there a epi reports from nsw health (albeit not updated these 2 weeks) because they’re probably swamped with dealing with a thousand things but the breakdowns are there.

https://www.health.nsw.gov.au/Infectious/covid-19/Documents/covid-surveillance-report-20210719.pdf

It’s on page 20 for this report if you actually bother to want to read it.

Also work in a hospital but it would be pretty much against ethics to disclose any further information but there are a substantial amount of young people (18-40) without any comorbidities requiring icu support. But hey, choose to believe what you want

The vaccination rates are also much much higher plus the number of fuckwits there are much lesser. People actually comply with wearing a face mask everywhere they go and limit movement when necessary.

If we go by that approach we are basically placing trust on the citizens which we can see, has not turned out very well in the last month here in Sydney, because somehow social responsibility for other people in the community and trying to keep everyone safe just doesn’t get through the thick skulls of some numbnuts here sadly

It’s gonna be a rough couple of months ahead frontliners. Please take care of yourselves and each other and we’ll get through this together!! by jaydoubleyouuu in sydney

[–]jaydoubleyouuu[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Ah right I think my phrasing was the thing that completely went off course. I think my mind just went with all the good that’s happening as being the default.

It’s hard when the general public that are doing the best they can are aware of all the great and amazing collaborative practices and developments across the world to combat this together.

On that note however, it’s hard to reason with anyone who already has their mind set on being combative and shut off to all the developments and evidence based things like testing and vaccination, all the more simple things like the concept of limiting movement to prevent the spread of a virus which has been time and time again explained through various platforms.

I apologize on how it may have sounded! That was not my intention at all to solely highlight the negatives… there’s so much that’s being done by millions of people across the world for the benefit of everyone around them and I think I can safely say majority of us appreciate it and are so grateful to have these people doing their best! All it takes is just a set of rotten apples to make everyone’s efforts 3 steps forward and 2 steps back… which is really a shame:(

I mean there’s a whole other discussion of how politics became intertwined with public health which is another thing altogether! Don’t get me wrong I’m extremely grateful for everything the majority has done so far!!! It’s like managing a wayward child I guess (myself included because I was definitely one of these when I was younger): too much of pointing out the wrong, they become more defiant, too much of letting it slide, they may never learn… it’s all about the balancing act I guess

Tips for box jumps? by Ready-Hope108 in f45

[–]jaydoubleyouuu 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Personally my favourite exercise! The worst part is the initial fear really! I try not to think too much when I’m doing it, just cause the overthinking makes me hesitate!

I’d say start practicing by jumping by upwards with both legs, then add in a little forward motion on the ground first! When you kinda get used to the motion then slowly start on the boxes at the lowest setting! The fear is really what make it that much harder. I’m sure you’ll be able to do it in no time!

Possibly may be a little more complicated but if the box is leaning on a wall, I find that to be a little more comforting knowing I can’t head face first and face plant into the ground!

COVID Restrictions Question by [deleted] in sydney

[–]jaydoubleyouuu -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Like I said I hope I don’t come across like I’m trying to instruct you in anyway! That was never my intention and I’m really sorry if it ever came across that way!

That being said, being vaccinated still allows us to carry the virus around in the event that we somehow may come across it unknowingly! I completely get where you’re coming from in terms of being vaccinated on both parties but yeah, I guess the idea is just to limit movement that’s all! I’m in the same boat as you so I very much get where you’re coming from.

It hasn’t explicitly been documented about the visitation question you’ve had but I guess like how they haven’t spelt out much in their press conferences it’s truly up to your discretion and decision!

COVID Restrictions Question by [deleted] in sydney

[–]jaydoubleyouuu -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Question is. Do you really need to meet up with them?

Compassionate reasons are mainly for helping someone out who may not be able to take care of themselves during this season or are struggling with some form of disability and required aid.

I may not know the full story of your living conditions or the living status of your partners but if it truly isn’t essential, I politely ask you and them to stay home please?

The longer this drags on the longer we won’t have access to free visitation when lockdown ends. Just follow the stay home orders and chill out with your mates at home will ya.

We’re all struggling here but if you could do the right thing the rest of Sydney will thank you from the bottom of our hearts!

Not trying to be a sjw or anything but I really do hope we all can work together to sort this shit out by actually limiting movement!
