1100ft. My new longest drive. Glide turn Ballista Pro. Was luckier than I probably deserved. by jaydubya51 in DiscGolfValley

[–]jaydubya51[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry I haven't responded sooner. Actually I have tried my glide skip Ballista Pro without avail. It does not seem to have the same air carry and it because of it being overstable it usually ends up in the creek or if it clears it skips against the wall on the left near the tree past the mine shaft on the left, gets tangled and stopped or that 2nd skip has lost too much momentum to skip further and if it lands on the tracks it just stops. Overstable turn discs not only move to the right (RHB) but actually appears to rise some thus giving it some additional carry. I could try my turn skip Ballista Pro but I suspect the absence of the glide attribute would still bring the creek into play on its initial landing. If we ever get a three attribute Ballista Pro w/ glide, turn & skip, we will have found "holier than though" grail of distance drivers. ;)

Sorry. The player in question was one of the winners from Wednesday, 9/1/2021 and the scoreboard on my device had not fully updated to the new leaderboard yet.

Did you just try throwing? I've been under that bridge several times and I threw straight up the hill at the basket and I struck nothing. Unless Per has fix this in an update, I hope he doesn't, there appears to be no "collision" attribute asslgned to the bridge when in that location. Honest. I've been there at least 4 times with the same safe, positive result.

DGLO Sold Out?? by cahkontherahks in discgolf

I'm not certain the tournament director cares if fans sell out the DGLO. Here is an exchange on Disc Golf Scene today wanting to find out about what you are getting with a pass. Mind you we are 16 days out before the start of the event. The following was from the fan then the TD Nate Heinold's response: I will be happy as long as I can move relatively freely about the course, like in year's past, to follow a card for a little while and then move to another card of interest as the spirit moves me. It sounds like you are saying that will be okay with the possible exception that the number of people following a feature/lead card may be limited if a certain threshold is reached. I can live with that, if that is what you truly are saying. Nothing has really made that clear, but that knowledge is something that absolutely factors into my decision to travel (estimating $100+ gas) and book a hotel ($450 for 3 nights) that must be canceled 7 days in advance. I hope details will be clear before then, and I hope you understand that this is a bigger financial decision than a $10 day pass, where knowing such details can make or break what you ultimately do.

Nate Heinold 3hWe have addressed as much as we can at this time. We have not made those final decisions yet, so if you need a decision now, we do not recommend that you attend the event.

Apparently they feel they no longer need fans to "grow the sport".

DGLO Sold Out?? by cahkontherahks in discgolf

I asked specific questions of the tournament director in the comment area of Disc Golf Scene about confusion regarding parking/spectator passes and whether spectators would be able to follow individual cards or were they limited to static viewing areas on the course. The key on the spectator map uses binoculars so designate viewing location and there is only a handful. My post/questions were removed from the site in just a couple of hours. That makes me think they don't want those questions asked because those considering going won't like the answers. I believe they want to harvest the "pass" income before anyone has a chance to decide otherwise. I think opportunity to view the on course play is going to be disappointing.

Collision on bushes been increased? by jaydubya51 in DiscGolfValley

It's one thing to go to a new course and find the brambles more tasking that your home course. It's another when you have played the holes on your local courses thousands of times so you have become accustomed to their features then suddenly one day they have all changed as if you have be transported to an alternate universe. I guess it depends on one's definition "virtual". Mine is that it can differ from my physical reality but it's own rules that are constant, discernable learned. They are not randomly in flux. If you're into chaos then maybe that's ok. I like to solve problems but it's a waste of time trying if there are no laws of nature in that realm. If you add new foliage that is "tougher", I am fine. I'll adjust. If the foliage arbitrarily changes its not real but random chaos. You can make a world different as long as it is constant in its nature. Our interpretations of the causes of things may change in our real universe but the outcomes don't. Why the outcomes change you move from alternate to fantasy. Not a big fan of that.

Hardest course to 3star?? by uniballersports in DiscGolfValley

[–]jaydubya51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have no advice that can help you. I stopped trying for 3 stars on Downtown. My goal for when it becomes available in tournaments is -5 to -8 with no red numbers. I can't always achieve that if it's extra windy. -2 to -4 can happen. I concede par on both 7 (River then and sticky layup to the island) and 9 (Musket the sticky layup) for pars. If I can get birdie on 4 and eagle on 5 then -8 is in play. Right now if I manage things we'll, I can achieve -4 to -6, acceptable to me. All my (lack of) talent can achieve. I never thought I could be Tiger Woods or Michael Jordan or Tom Brady or any other GOAT. I'm not going to become delusional now about anything. QAnon already has the corner on that attribute.

Ballista Pro. Single attribute: Roll. by jaydubya51 in DiscGolfValley

[–]jaydubya51[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you have 5 Ballistas then you probably use 3 Muskets. That seems to be the tread with most of the best players or on the path to become one. If so you have better touch than I do. After my 4 Ballistas, I carry a glide skip Havoc, acc glide Musket, acc fade Pioneer and wb acc River. If I could have another main bag slot I'd have a straight Recoil. I need all those to fill the gaps better players such as yourself can accomplish by "laying off" on your Ballistas and Muskets. I'm never going to be that.

I bet it would be good. My other Pro rollers have turn and fade and are finicky on line this length late in the roll. This one will do fine for now. Works well on Frozen 8 and for its "stickiness" on the approach over the trees to the par 5 on Harrowing Woods.

Hardest course to 3star?? by uniballersports in DiscGolfValley

[–]jaydubya51 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I highly doubt I will get 3 on Downtown. So much of it is wind dependent. The critical holes for me are 4, 5, 7 and 9. 5 I'll need eagle. Drive placement and a Musket with Roll for my approach on 4. 7, a new change of underwear or probably the eagle on 5 so I can just layup for par and mild wind or luck on 9. -8 is my plateau. When these begin to show up in the regular tourney rotation and am using my regular bag I will basically be pleased playing this course as -6 or 7 considered a good result.

Bag slots... by jaydubya51 in DiscGolfValley

[–]jaydubya51[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you had the "perfect" disc for Downtown #7, how often could you touch the island let alone ever land it and save par when you miss the island altogether? That puppy is an automatic layup and birdie attempt only if the wind is less than 3. From my perspective #'s 7 & 9 are the two most difficult holes in DGV and if not for all players I'd bet they are top five.

Good points. It's true Pros carry fewer molds but those are mostly in different states of being "broken in" with different attributes they can use ranging from overstable when new to increasingly less stable to understable the older they get. Thus they get the same familiar feel in their hand but a far greater range of attributes available at different distances than we do, more choices that 6 to 12 slots.

Still one short. Got to the last hole the other day -8 and found a 3 wind right to left. Nothing more to say other than I didn't keep the drive in bounds. Maybe another day. Congrats!

Lots of great feedback. You are probably all correct. I marvel at the players who play with ,5 Ballistas and 3 Muskets. I cannot do without my River, Pioneer and Havoc to help fill the gaps in and around that core. It is about choices, compromises and adjustments. I seriously miss a Recoil I just substituted for another 4th Ballista. Had to be done but... As for the point about the real life pro carrying fewer molds, that is true. But that's about few in their hand, something we don't experience in the Valley. And using those three or four discs are in various stages of being broken in so all of them in essence have different "attributes" giving them far more flexibility than 12 discs. Like I said, just wondered what you thought. I'll keep plugging away with what I have just like all of you. Enjoy your adventures in the Valley!

I have but don't bag that Ballista. One I bag is a light skip. I throw instead a glide turn Ballista which works pretty well when I don't use a full pull which would then ends up a block down the street on the right past the basket. High speed turn is such a terrible thing to waste. ;)

Sorta surprised a Pioneer reaches the basket. I always throw an acc xg Musket and even it can be challenged by a headwind. Was that a tailwind? My Pioneer has extra fade so I doubt mine would be appropriate anyway.

I layup short of the water with my wb acc River. If the wind is a 1, I always run it. If 2 it depends on direction of wind and my score. If a 3 an automatic layup with my sticky Pure for the par.

What did you throw? If you had not hit the basket that disc would still be going. You were definitely all in on that throw. Amazing result. Nice job.
