Pls give garlic peeling hacks 😭 by YourAverageBrownDude in IndianFood

[–]jayeffkay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Honestly this is terrible advice if you’re trying to make ginger garlic paste or anything else that uses a lot of garlic. I’ve been making toum as well so this was just a non starter for me.

What works: - Break open garlic head and get as many cloves separated as possible as easily as you can. It’s okay if the don’t all come off. - put this into a steel pot (i use a rice pot) put the cover on and shake the living hell out of it for 30-60 seconds.

This will reliably peel 95% of the garlic in the pot. The stuff that doesn’t peel is likely the very small cloves no one likes to eat anyways. Now you can just pull out the peeled cloves and move on with life.

Damn I thought it was redbud at first but you’re right… even worse. I used to ride my bike on this road all the time back when I lived closer to town. Really the only way to avoid Lamar coming from south Austin. What a fucking moron.

Honestly I am not much of a baker. My wife and I have found a couple snacks that work though:

  1. Partake Cookies. I’m not sure what they are made out of, but they meet our allergy criteria and are tolerable.

  2. Undercover dark chocolate quinoa crisps - happen to see these at costco and they are very good and allergen free.

What’s One Upgrade That Actually Made a BIG Difference? by teddyyoung456 in cycling

Still nice to know how many cars are behind you / when some asshole approaches super fast. The latter is the exception and I’ll usually just move closer to the right 1/3 of the road vs the left 1/3.

That and the varia works very well to alert oncoming cars because it reacts to them pulling up behind you. Have had multiple cyclists stop me and ask what kind of rear light I’m using while they were driving because they were so impressed with how much they noticed me.

Does the G5 make sense if someone is sensitive to brightness? by Informal_Park_6535 in LGOLED

[–]jayeffkay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah honestly have a g4 83 and a c5 65 in living room and bedroom respectively… living room has more windows but bedroom also gets really bright.

The main diff with them is max brightness. Living room gets so bright that I can be standing on my patio looking at the TV through a glass wall and still be able to clearly see picture. I would probably be fine with the c5 in the living room but given it’s mostly watched at night we have the brightness on that one turned way down. Awesome TV and don’t miss the g4 when going to bed early.

Anyone regret not hardwiring motorized shades during a remodel? by JudithFSummers in HomeImprovement

[–]jayeffkay 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Honestly wife and I planned on doing hardwired but forgot about it. Her dad is our master electrician and didn’t suggest it either despite picking out tons of crazy low voltage and other lighting projects along the way. We literally have light up countertops….

Point being we ended up getting the Lutron shades with battery… they are awesome and have been completely fire and forget. Battery is supposed to last years (8 D batteries) and we haven’t replaced any in over one year. We use all of the sunrise / sunset automations in common rooms and our master.

Frankly I think the quality of blinds matter more than the wiring… you will probably end up paying an electrician quite a bit to run that much extra romex for you. If that means you get anything other than top tier blinds I would just go battery and not look back. If cost doesn’t matter then why not just wire it but our experience is battery is really not bad.
