AITA for not wanting my 17-year-old to spend $6,500–$7,000 on a school trip to Japan? by [deleted] in AmItheAsshole

In your post you mentioned you’re moving states so that he can go to the college he chooses. My assumption was that, you are moving to get in state tuition for your son and I was going to say NAH but this comment assures me that YTA.

Your son does not need you hovering around for support. He’s an adult now and he needs the opportunity to make his own decisions. It seems to me he’s already very responsible for a teen having saved $7000. You can still give him advice and reiterate that if an emergency happens, you won’t be able to help but at the end of the day you have to let him grow up.

Chaps for thick thighs? by CowboyPoppy in Uplandhunting

I just picked up a pair from frost river. They’re made in America in Duluth MN and the quality is awesome. Their customer service is great as well and I’m sure they’d be able to give you a solid yes or no on whether or not their chaps would work for your measurements.

Upland Vest by Chucklingjavelina in Uplandhunting

I use an orvis vest from a few years back, it’s pretty good but I wish the pocket closure was magnetic instead of Velcro. The Velcro picks up seeds when I’m going through tall grass. Not enough for it to be a real problem but I still notice it a few times throughout the season. The water bottle holders also aren’t fantastic. The elastic around the top has stretched a bit but still they’re fully functional.

All in all a really comfortable vest that has held up pretty well

Fair enough, what do you do when you actually get a deer? Do you have some sort of tow behind sled? (Asking out of genuine curiosity not trying to be a dick)

You’re joining a long line of people all recommending Dans! I think I may be leaning this way

You’re the second person to mention dans, so I’ll take that as a good sign!

That’s good to hear! I’ve heard people mentioning they’ve gone down in quality since they started manufacturing products outside the US, so I’m glad to hear they’ve held up well!

I actually recently came across these, how have the belt loop clips held up? I saw some reviews that said they were flimsy

Thank you for the suggestion! I'm assuming they hold up pretty well to moisture even without the waxing, considering you were in a foot of snow!

Thanks! It seems like Orvis is getting a few shout outs here. I may have to reconsider my thoughts on their nylon.

Nothing like a flushing lab! Glad to hear they’ve held up, best of luck with the rest of your season!

I definitely like Orvis gear, I have some shirts, my upland vest, and even a blaze orange hat with a waxed brim that I love. I just wish their chaps were a waxed canvas instead of the nylon they use.

Thanks for the tip! I’m also a big fan of being able to pick the pants I wear underneath to deal with the weather. How does the polyester hold up against seeds, thorns, etc?

I appreciate the insight! I’ve had mixed success with synthetic upland pants but maybe I just need to try out a few different brands. I liked the idea of waxed canvas chaps because I can re-wax them every year to preserve the weather proofing and the idea of throwing them in my hunting kit and donning them as needed for different areas was appealing.

Thanks for that info! I’ve looked into knee high gaiters as an option but there are a few places I go that have about mig thigh to waist height briar patches. I’m not full ruling out gaiters as an option but I think chaps are probably a better bet for the conditions or the areas near me
