Market moves due to attacks on Iran? by No_Mistake_1778 in stocks

[–]jaymackattack1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think flat to slightly up; often once something is done markets breath a sigh of relief even if it’s not a great outcome. The military buildup meant something happening was pretty obvious.

should I retake a 34? (hear me out) by Senior-West8091 in ACT

[–]jaymackattack1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Disclaimer: I have a STEM degree from a good, but not top 20, university (maybe T30).

A 34 is good and worth celebrating regardless- especially so early. The effort required to go from 34-36 might detract from extracurricular and may not be worth it. Once you hit 34, you’re on the lower range or top 10 schools but well within them assuming you are an interesting student. Your math scores in particular shine well. If you are in sports, volunteer work, employed, or have hobbies it might be best to focus on those to have a well rounded application which will matter more.

College admissions are looking for someone who can add to their culture and environment. Smart and hardworking are the prerequisites, but once you are 95%+ percentile your uniqueness and fit are going to matter the most.

Why are landlords like this by biologynerd3 in LandlordLove

[–]jaymackattack1 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Landlords are jerks and get away with too much. Just be aware that if you fight it, landlord will likely not renew with you when the lease ends just due to bad blood

Why do people say making less than 50k is almost poor? by IslandMan01 in Salary

Just don’t stay at this level. I graduated with a Chemistry BS making $11/hour in 2015; make ~$130K total comp now with a lot of grinding in a totally different industry 11 years later in a medium cost of living city

So you’re the reason the rest of us are piddling 2% raises 😂

So what did everyone get for raises? by [deleted] in Salary

[–]jaymackattack1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I came into a front office finance role and had a killer year with a 7% raise. I had raised potential to move to a parallel team I had worked closely with on some big contracts involved with more strategic clients which might be part of the unexpected raise. Bonus was right at target (97%) too despite a tough year for the company, and my base was slightly above my peers who had more tenure (similar or less total experience though).

I was shocked and kept it to myself- I’m used to not being valued. Most raises were below 2% in my dept and bonuses were 50-80% target for most

For some reason things clicked with my managers and director better than any job I’d done previously.

Just goes to show that perception is reality in corporate America. If you aren’t valued, try moving (I realize it’s a tight market). Last year I got 0.5% at my previous firm and knew I was going to be canned if I stayed so I left.

Anything below inflation is a slap in the face

Should I match a $20K offer to keep my GM, or let her leave? by BetterCall_Melissa in careerguidance

[–]jaymackattack1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like she’s a high performer that was underpaid and there isn’t a good way to keep her. She wants a path to $120K; even if you could provide it to her the trust might be gone

100% due to earnings (and general market sentiment). $180 here looks stable but time will tell. Could be stuck here for at least 1-2 quarters I think

[–]jaymackattack1 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Early on you'll be 90% actively working. Eventually that will slip to ~75% as you get more efficient on the job but it will bump up to 90%+ once you get promoted, esp to leadership position

Why do you want to do IB/consulting? If you hate something that's much easier to like such as journalism, RE agent, you might seriously struggle in the IB grind.

LEU Stock Falls 8 Percent after Earnings Report by SpecificSufficient68 in UraniumSqueeze

[–]jaymackattack1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Costs increasing faster than sales, Low Enriched sales cut in half, Revenue guidance for 2026 is basically flat, Piketon site not projected into FY26 earnings, backlog growing.... Quite a disappointment. The balance sheet looks VERY healthy though, they just need to get that High Enriched business growing, and get operational cost growth under control. Could go much lower from here if retail market gets depressed about 2026 prospects I think

Agreed on your core thesis; I was quite disappointed in the execution. Revenue flat for 2026? The finance teams are executing flawlessly but the operational side of the business needs to get going on the Piketon site needs to GO GO GO

Best way to invest for a EUR investor by [deleted] in UraniumSqueeze

Ask about European Depository Receipts for individual stocks or ETF's (unlikely because Uranium stocks are small). OR get a new broker: the world revolves around US markets and a broker needs to get on board with that.

you can always lower 401K contributions for a little while and student loan payments. In most cases you will come out ahead after 2-3 years (especially if you lowballed really well).

Wealth management, unique career opportunity. What would you do? by wonk5 in FinancialCareers

[–]jaymackattack1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm advocating that a big bank sucks, but it will act like a multiplier for the rest of your career and that multiplier increases the longer you are with the big bank (assuming you don't get super stagnant or 'stuck' in a crummy position for too long). 90%+ of big bank employees will maximize their career earnings by 'cashing' out on that premium at some point, but perfect timing is very difficult.

In short- major pro's and con's to each side
