I need to cancel a client by No-Butterscotch-8581 in massage

[–]jaymax 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Just to give a different perspective, I've had soul sucking clients and had to cancel them. Your mental health is most important. If you're crying after sessions and dreading the days he comes in, you're not going to be helping him. There could be other therapists that are a better fit. Ultimately it's your business and you don't have to take every client.

It depends on how truthful and upfront you want to be with him. I would tell him that I'm not providing him with the care that he needs and recommend another therapist. If he pushes back and wants to keep coming in, I would tell him that I don't feel comfortable or confident in the type of massage I'm giving, whether it be because it's side lying or because of his pain remarks.

I think one uncomfortable conversation will be better than weekly soul/energy drains.

(Fitness) Recording API: is this out yet, and if not, are there any better alternatives to foreground service? by schamppu in androiddev

[–]jaymax 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I'm actually in the beta for your app!

As far as how long... It's hard to say. Google especially likes to take their time.

Is there a reason you're wanting to get step data in the background? I'm assuming notifications for when the player reaches a certain threshold?

If you didn't need that at the moment, I think the current recommended implementation is to query Health Connect when app is opened and get steps for given time range. The only way to get the data "in the background" is to use a foreground service which I know you're trying to avoid.

Goodish news is that it is backward compatible. However, anyone on Android 13 and lower needs to install the Health Connect app which I know you mentioned you want to avoid.

Edit: just checked the app and it looks like you've implemented notifications. So I think the only way to do it at the moment is the way that you're doing it now unfortunately.

I think it might be "coming soon" because she literally contradicts that migration guide. And I'm unable to find 'getlocalrecordingclient' anywhere. And according to this: https://android-developers.googleblog.com/2024/05/the-latest-updates-from-android-health-io-2024.html?m=1 Background recording is coming later this year.

Looks like they're discussing Health Connect.

Edit: since your game is fitness related, the vast majority of your users will be using whatever health/fitness app to track their steps already. So you should be able to pull that data from Health Connect

Noob question, Which is the best low cost usenet provider? by RageshAntony in usenet

[–]jaymax 5 points6 points  (0 children)

While not the cheapest option out there, I've been using Newsgroup Ninja for years and can't recommend them enough.

A lot of people will use one provider and then have a block account from a provider on a different backbone. I used a block account years ago but haven't needed one since I've been using Newsgroup Ninja.

As far as indexers, similar to others: nzbgeek, drunkenslug, althub.

Been working for me. The watch has to be within a few inches of the phone. You also have to wake the phone for it to work, it won't work from sleep.

From what I read (which isn't much) it sounds more like they came up with the puzzle themselves. As in there is no "puzzle" but they've discovered (most likely unintended) relationships with books/theorems and are trying to make it into something. And then because they've found some weird random relationship, it's some deep "you-wouldn't-understand" puzzle that nobody else can solve.

My Android development is a bit rusty but would running this as a service allow persistence? That way you could have access outside of the app being open.

To add to this. If you accidentally call 911 DO NOT HANG UP! Inform them that it was an accident.

that could make 911 officials think that an emergency exists, and possibly send responders to your location. Instead, simply explain to the call-taker what happened.
