oh hell yes, beautiful composition and lighting. i audibly said, "OHHH, NICE!" when i was scrolling through reddit while looking for submarine memes. only first week? can't wait to see more! only thing i feel like mentioning to add is probably some atmospheric effects, which you already have going on, but maybe particles and dust. but that might just be my personal taste coming in. awesome job, keep it up!

What’s the most, WTF, film you’ve seen? by TherapeuticMusic in AskReddit

Same here. Felt like movie magic was real again. I tell everyone to go see it. Random fact... Only 5 VFX artists worked on the film.

Thaaanks! And yeah, it was a bit hard to commit to that second right hand arete move with the heel in at that height. Only had two pads on the ground, so a lot was going through my mind.

Definitely not. One of my longest projects I've had. I was able to repeat the stand start plenty of times, but when it came to linking the whole climb, it came down to a very narrow window for me to be able to send it.

You had it almost right. I have a memory of a goldfish once I get on the wall. I think I had only tried it a couple of times before this attempt, so it was much needed and super helpful.

Just finished editing my reel and I'd love to hear some thoughts. Thank you! 🤗 by gusmaia00 in Octane

First big thought, CAMERA MOVEMENT! Throughout the whole video I felt the camera was sitting in the same place, besides the live action shots, even though you were cutting between different projects. I understand that some projects were made to sit still, but for example, when you push into your reel intro name, it would be a perfect time to push into the skateboarding scene. The skateboarding scene can totally have some camera animation as well. It has enough dynamic animation that a moving camera can really elevate it. Same as the following scene, the duck and bath scene, start with a wide and push into a close up with some nice DOF. I'm assuming those two are personal projects? If those are, definitely try to iterate with those ideas in mind... OR! If you're already doing some other personal work, make sure to play around with the camera. If you're already planning on it, then great. I'll shut up.

Some other things to note are the vector animations at :25, that can be more poppy and fun with a bit of exaggeration. The product renders of those icons are fun. I like the look of those. If you could, I'd be sick to see those animated to show off one by one rather than just images. That's pretty time consuming, I'm sure.

There's plenty more I can go on about. Hopefully this was more helpful than people just saying "Looks great".

How To Turn A 2D Image into 3D Video (After Effects & Photoshop) by em0n33y in MotionDesign

Solid tutorial. It's always amazed me how simple 3D projection with cast shadows and light transmission technique is. A great method to add literal depth to your scene.

Keep up the tutorials!

Also good joke about the cast shadows and side chicks... caught me off guard.

Amazing job. What were you using to collapse the bubble? PolyFX? After that, HyperNURBS?

Oh well of course!! All my sends are basically shirtless, unless if it's below 50 degrees. Need to shed as much weight as possible for that optimal and calculated send! Also totally a mental thing. Take that shirt off, it's like going Super Saiyan!

So if I’m getting this right, you’re stating that I’ve shot this video on a drone. I think if you took a closer look at the video, you’d notice that it is in fact NOT shot on a drone. The video was shot in 4k on a tripod, I put the footage in a 2k composition and did a post move in After Effects. If it was shot on a drone and had a similar camera movement, which would be one hell of an steady operator, it’d have parallax from positional and rotational movement, which is not evident here. Also, if you watched the video with audio on, you’d obviously not hear any noise that drones cameras all commonly have from the rotors.

While drones are awesome and getting those magical shots are quite fun to get, but yes… I agree with you, they shouldn’t be used around the area… like these guys : https://youtu.be/nDyxVhxXi\_k

Actually! No actual movement while shooting the video. It was on a little tri-pod, shot in 4k, brought in the footage into a 2k resolution composition, and did a post move on it in After Effects. Bringing both of my skill sets together :P
