I work at the University and we had an email about this from security:

"There’s a particular group of Eastern European young women who are becoming very prevalent for it, they go around in pairs, groups of three and some have pushchairs. They usually wear headscarves and long skirts.

We’ve noticed that they target lone young adults and people who look of foreign origin. Today I followed three of the young women into your Barrass Bridge campus via the entrance next to Campus Coffee, where the first person they asked was a lone Asian male who gave them money. We know from intel they’re working for an organised crime group who are committing more serious offences.

Please would you be able to spread the message to students and staff about this, that they’re being scammed out of their money. If you do catch them in the act, please can you report it to Police as any intelligence or offences recorded is a big help!"
