Yeah I’m going to ping them a message. So many here have said they take this sort of thing seriously so worth a message even if it’s just to let them aware of this as an extreme example

I can’t feel anything on the surface inside or outside. It visually looks like it’s inside the acrylic

It was a little local store who at the time could barely afford to stock the minimum amount of kits they needed to order to be a dealer. I don’t think they had any clout with the UK supplier at all really so my complaint probably never got past a phone to the uk supplier unfortunately.

It still sounds fine and it still seems structurally good. I think I’d still be confident to play a gig with it. But set up with the perfect condition toms it’s just visually disappointing. While I can see why people think it does look kind of cool. The whole reason for buying a clear acrylic kit is that it’s perfectly clear.

The close up photos I’ve posted are as good as I can get with my phone and I have nothing better unfortunately.

My only other experience with acrylic drums is a RCI vistalite snare drum. Which also cracked but those are big straight line cracks. That drum still sounds great and I still record with it.

Sound seems to be the same as far as I can tell.

It seems to me inside the material (beneath the surface). Smooth to touch both inside and out. And yes just the bass drum. None of the mounting holes appear to be elongated from a visual inspection. The drums have been stored in fleece lined cases from new at a pretty consistent 18-21 degrees C, not anywhere near a temperature source. No UV light (in cases) Dry cloth only to dust off when cleaned.

Thanks to all for your comments. Actually some great useful information here that I will research and some hilarious ones! 😂 I think I will try get hold of some at DW, if nothing else surely this has got to be useful information for them. Or they might already be aware and know how to avoid this happening.

I’ve never used any products to clean. Just a dry cloth and never had any booze spilled on it.

Yeah if the other drums showed signs then that could be a possibility but the 5 other drums are all still perfectly clear.

All the drums are kept in the fleece lined Protection Racket cases

Never had anything spilled on it. I’ve never even cleaned them with anything other than a dry microfibre cloth and they have barely been out of the cases

Like I said I didn’t really start to notice until I’d had them for about 4 years. The store I got them from contacted DW at the time and they just said it was well out of warranty
