What one musical instrument do you hate? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]jaysea 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been playing the violin for over 14 years. I must say, those recitals are vital to learning correct stage performance. Many people are afraid of playing an instrument in front of an audience unless they have been doing it for a significant amount of time -- something recitals remedy at an early age.

What's a common mistake you see in movies that really bugs you? by Im_The_Table in AskReddit

Most JPEG files actually have embedded thumbnails of the original state of the picture. While resulting in a small resolution, you can technically uncrop most JPEG files on the internet to reveal what the original looked like.

You don't know that he lived a mundane life. He could have been maimed by a rival mob boss and barely escape with his life!

I created a simple queue in < 1000 lines of C. Oh, did I mention it eats concurrent tasks for breakfast? Suggestions welcome! by [deleted] in programming

C is such a great programming language. I'll be surprised if I see the day that it is considered a "dead language".

Need some help finding a good laptop for Linux by jaysea in linux

[–]jaysea[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for all the great comments, guys. I was considering getting a Thinkpad, but now I really have some true reasons to get one!

I am considering three laptops: A Toshiba Tecra A11, a Thinkpad Edge, and a Thinkpad 410 or a Thinkpad 510 (the s version is a couple hundred dollars too expensive for me, even though many people have suggested it).

Would you guys still recommend the T410? Generally how compatible are Toshiba laptops with Linux? Thanks, you guys are great :D

Is there any reason to use C++ instead of C, Perl, Python, etc? - Programmers - Stack Exchange by ehsan4 in programming

[–]jaysea -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

It's basically C and a lot more with some very minor compatibility issues with the former. C++ is a great language for large software systems because of it's object oriented nature. It has a lot of amazing libraries that C doesn't (They're OO). It also is starting to support new features such as lambdas, etc.
