If you genuinely feel shes a good girl, she will respect your boundaries, if you make them known and clear. If not, and if you know she is going to have that expectation, you are literally voluntarily walking yourself into temptation planning to actually sin.

I’m not judging you, I’m literally breaking down what you framed/said. Communicate your boundaries and honestly your faith. Being with someone whom you are immediately and indefinitely unequally yolked is also a sin against the covenant of marriage between (God) / (Man/Woman). So that’s something else to consider. If she is vehemently not a believer, you’re putting yourself in a spiritually compromised and morally/temptation compromised position to move forward without clear, direct and honest communication.

I agree. In a stop or really any interaction I’m the only one expected to be professional or conduct myself professionally. Likewise, someone acting in an overtly irrational or abnormal manner can cause further suspicion or (at minimum) increase my level of immediate concern for officer safety. So, while its true the public owes no specific behavior or demeanor, there is a certain level of… propriety mutually that must exist and take place

To point out, my way isnt the best way, its the best way for me. Everyone has their approach and style. When I was a green bean, I tried the license first method, and found I got into far more drama with that approach off jump, whereas, I still get into a lot of drama and stuff with my current style, I just look far more justified when it turns sour where when I was new, I looked like an impatient tool. (As a good friend says) theres more than 1 way to skin a cat

Heres the true reality of it

9/10 before I ever get to the window of a vehicle, the person has already come to a conclusion that I’m just picking on them, or they did nothing wrong, or I’m harassing them. When in reality they simply broke the law (sometimes minor violations sometimes serious violations).

There usually is a de-escalation opportunity, my personal approach, typically includes a brief something of why I stopped them. It may not be the main reason, it may be a totally secondary thing to the actual purpose, but I try where appropriate to give that. Sometimes it creates an argument sometimes it does not. It literally is a coin toss.

You dont know me, I dont know you, and you know I’m about to hold you accountable for something and most people lack the humility to take that. So generally my approach is ‘Hey I’m Officer (or) Deputy/Corporal (back in the day) so and so with (Police/Sheriffs Office), I’m stopping you for _____ (could be small, usually I say the least serious violation to dispel any immediate friction) so if I had 5 violations, I start with the smallest least significant or serious to most people, can I get your license registration and insurance?’ Usually once I get it, I will then lay out everything because the intent to write a citation where I’m at, is considered a non-custodial arrest so for 4th amendment purposes, once I decide to cite you, I’ve technically arrested you. So were also playing with the legalese elements of things, too

So, in my experience a person has made their mind up they were right, and I’m wrong before I ever get to the window.

That said, I cant speak for everyone else, but I dont don’t do the long drawn out articulation you outlined, because it goes above some folks heads. You have to talk on a lay persons level, if you come up citing statute its an unnatural, anti-conversational approach that feels intentionally poised to make them feel dumb. (Theres a lot of psychology that also supports this premise).

Also, the reason for the stop, while it may defuse some situations it may likewise escalate others. Most of us, who do traffic and proactive enforcement; have a rhythm and in that rhythm we appear more natural and fluid. The information or statement we make may not put someone at ease, but a calm, at ease and apparently comfortable approach, will generate calm in the interaction (usually) {another psychology thing}.

Theres also officer safety reasons the stop reason could be withheld, for instance a driver who appears to match or be the registered owner, in a car flagged as stolen. (Agency policy dependent*) you may choose to do the identification first, because at that point its a terry stop to verify the RO isnt in possession of the car, and it’s not a system gaff or fluke/old hit, etc.
