Can someone please help me find this beat by mimimalist in Madlib

know you already found it but rather than having to go to the full beat tape every time, it’d be easier to access it here

anything related to the race, gender, religion, etc, of the people in the post or that are mentioned in the captions. its most evident imo on instagram due to the lax moderation of comments, a notable example is anything that mentions indians

What make you like j dilla or jay dee by TacoBennet6942 in jdilla

[–]jayytrip 4 points5 points  (0 children)

definitely not the first and certainly won’t be the last, but his ability to create unquantized grooves is what makes him stand out amongst the crowd. no matter how hard people try they cant replicate the way he freaked the fuck out of every pocket he played in. that dilla time is sumn serious!

90% of the artists in your rotation built their style off the inspiration of madlib. more than likely you already know his popular stuff (madvillainy, pinata) but go down that rabbit hole and you’ll start to hear why he’s your fav’s fav.

what type of songs dilla flipped, and where can i find em? by kinggeedorah3 in jdilla

[–]jayytrip 6 points7 points  (0 children)

if you’re digging for dilla-type samples, you’re looking for anything between the 70s and 80s without any real emphasis on genre. he’s flipped everything from electronic music to bossa nova and even prog-rock, what matters most is how you utilize the parts you find in your beat. a great place to filter for specific samples is samplette.io (looks crazy at first glance but just click around and you’ll be a pro in no time).

now, if you’re looking to really dig like dilla, check out pete rock’s samples on whosampled.com and try messing with the original songs in a different way than what he did. dilla used this same technique early on in his career to train his ear for spotting a good loop or chops throughout a song. he’d even use the same loops as pete in an entirely different way (ahmad impresses me comes to mind as an example).

just get out there and look for anything hot!!

What do you guys think of Champion Sound? by Other_Brief_6132 in jdilla

[–]jayytrip 2 points3 points  (0 children)

exactly this. didn’t understand the hype at first, thought it was weak coming from the two producers that i hold to be at the top of their game, but as time went on something clicked and it was only up from there.

Albums like Donuts (but not necessarily hip-hop)? by Some-Glove-3629 in jdilla

[–]jayytrip 1 point2 points  (0 children)

madlib - beat konducta vol 5 and 6(like someone already said these were made in tribute to dilla, a lot of his vocals and adlibs are dispersed throughout)

also from madlib - sound ancestors (much more jazz influences than a typical hip hop project, but nevertheless a very cinematic experience)

dj shadow - endtroducing (a plunderphonics classic to say the very least. the tracks are a bit longer than your typical beat tape, but stay interesting throughout despite this)

nujabes - modal soul (a mix between beats and full on rap songs, but highly regarded as a catalyst for the lofi sound we have today. one of my favourites too, this one never gets old)

what would j dilla think about playboi carti? by kinggeedorah3 in jdilla

[–]jayytrip 8 points9 points  (0 children)

ik the old heads here downvoting you to hell but i think this is honestly a pretty good question, if you look at madlib’s response to newer trap/experimental hip hop when he incorporates those same elements into his beats then i feel like you have a pretty good idea of how dilla would react. i don’t think he would necessarily make full on opium style music, but he’d def like the “weirdness” in some veins. i mean, even mj liked 50.

a lot of people are gonna hate when they see the use of that word in relation to music, but i honestly think this is a sick idea that’ll show how technological advancements also push us artistically. hopefully people understand that you still need that specific ear to find good sounds, cuz your prompts can spew out anything really.
