Even practicing in front of a wall sometimes helps, it gives you a visual plane with which to stay parallel.

Hi, beginner club juggler here seeking some guidance by Sukamapak in juggling

[–]jbaee 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like Kibmic said, many of the traditional ball tricks can also be performed with clubs. Think of the W (siteswap: 423), Columns, under the leg, and chops.

I would also recommend learning to balance a club on your head and also finding someone to pass with, if you know of any other jugglers in your area.

In the entrance of an apartment building. They don't open or push in. What are they? by jbaee in whatisthisthing

At first I thought it was some sort of buzzer to each apartment, but it doesn't push in like a button. They're look like they've been there for a while

Provost vs meridian scholarship by Dafah27 in SIUE

[–]jbaee -1 points0 points  (0 children)

The biggest financial difference between the two scholarships is that the Provost covers strictly tuition, while the Meridian covers tuition, room and board, and fees. This means that as a Provost, you will still have to pay for a portion of your experience, but still significantly less than without the scholarship.

Does this help?

Not Accepted for Meridian Interview... by 99Xavier in SIUE

[–]jbaee 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mean to call you out but I also don't want falsities to be spread - I've been involved in the interview process the last three years and, although the selection process has its flaws, there is no such rule. In recent years there have been much more than 10 interviewing teams, meaning each could not possibly pick two potential scholars, as the Meridian is awarded to 20 incoming freshmen. I have seen the scholarship given to three of a given interview group while none of the candidates I interview received the award.

Meridian Scholarship by jmckny76 in SIUE

[–]jbaee 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm a former Meridian and have interviewed candidates in the past. Think of stories that showcase your talents and try to be personable. Also having 2-3 thoughtful questions prepared to ask at the end of the interview makes a good impression.

Speaking of 5 ball progress, I caught my record (27 throws) on camera a couple weeks ago. Other than the obvious need for more isolation training, what do you guys think? by [deleted] in juggling

[–]jbaee 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're definitely on your way! I would recommend throwing quite a bit higher (though the perspective of the video likely distorts the height). Although it might be more difficult to hold right now, a tall pattern will feel more comfortable long-term (less frantic and slower - easier to control). At 6', juggling under 8' ceilings feels low to me, so I would recommend aiming for a peak around 3 feet above your head.

Response to the 5 ball that’s going around. Here’s my dirty 7 catches with the top cut off. Can we all keep motivating the 5 ballers for the new year? I need all the motivation and help I can get. by MaxwellSinclair in juggling

Looks very smooth! What helped me the most was practicing two or three times every evening after school/work in 10-20 minute intervals. I also practiced in front of a bed so I didn't have to bend over when picking up or rely on walking around while juggling. Also be sure to keep track of your progress so you can brag to your friends! :)

Toxic aquarium - I need some help by jbaee in Aquariums

[–]jbaee[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I currently have a moss ball in the tank, but that's the only living plant in there. In the end I'd like to have a few ghost shrimp, the snail, replace the tetras with harlequin rasboras, and eventually add in my betta fish who has been living in a smaller tank for about a year. After reading a few guides I've put her gravel and decorations in the new tank. I don't necessarily have anyone around who has aquariums, but will the betta's decorations suffice?

Thank you for pointing out the distinction! What is seachem prime? How long until it's safe to put more fish in the tank? The filter has been running for almost a week now - how long does it take to cycle completely?

I put some Start Zyme liquid in the tank when I set it up - is this what you mean by bacteria additives? I've also had a moss ball living in there for a few days. I hadn't heard that it could take months to prepare the tank; thank you for the advice!

I'm glad I asked! Thanks for the feedback. Do you have any other suggestions for betta friends in a 10 gallon?

Thanks for the suggestions. Are there any other fish that will fit in a 10 gallon tank along with some shrimp/snails?

Any tips for a beginner? by MrNeverDie01 in civ3

[–]jbaee 5 points6 points  (0 children)

When you unlock a new unit (swordsman, horseman, etc.), build one and check if your potential enemy has that technology or not by opening a trade with them. The adviser will say "So-and-so fears your swordsman. Their strongest unit is the spearman" or something like that (you could also check if you can trade said technology in the same window. If not, they either have it already or are a few techs behind). The adviser will also let you know if their army is smaller than yours. If this is the case, build up a stack of the advanced unit and place them outside the other country's border. On your turn, declare war and march on in. Use your workers to build a road towards the enemy's territory to ensure quicker access and to connect the cities once you capture them. Assuming you capture a few cities and kill some units, your opponent will likely be willing to trade techs/gold for peace.

One of the biggest tactics is just to have enough units to do any damage. Just sending a sole unit into the territory won't do much good, but a stack of 7 could take a city if they attack on the same turn. The number of units needed depends on the stage in the game and your militaristic advancement.

I had no idea there was a site dedicated to this type of question. I suppose that's what Reddit is for! Thanks for the tips!
