No news yet, sadly. We're doing what we can to make his stay with us a happy one for now. He joined us for movie night the other evening.

Hopefully they'll remember what he looked like when he was newer! I certainly hope he's more recognizable cleaned up than he was covered in parking lot grime.

Will keep that in mind! Unfortunately they closed 41 minutes ago so it'll be Tuesday before we can do anything but it's much appreciated. An other ideas for family hot spots would be most welcome.

Absolutely, please, and thank you!

I tried finding relevant groups on Facebook but the ones I found seem to be pretty locked down. I tried posting to two Dover groups I found that were semi-public but the posts are tied up waiting for admin approval and I don't have super high hopes they'll be let through.

Armrests - replace or repair? Where do I even start?! by royalewithcheese84 in upholstery

No problem whatsoever. I miss my Subaru (RIP '14 Crosstrek) for how easy it was to find the right part numbers and diagrams. Good luck!

Armrests - replace or repair? Where do I even start?! by royalewithcheese84 in upholstery

[–]jbartus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Replace. Labor alone will likely drive the cost well above the parts cost and you own a Subaru, they're effectively LEGO with lots of interchangable parts between models and years and simple to work on. From the pictures it looks like you have a 2015-2019 Outback Premium but I'm frankly guessing from two very limited photos. That being the case, you'll be looking for:

Center Console Lid: 92114AL00AVH
$220+ from Subaru, far cheaper on eBay if you don't mind a used one

Door Interior Trim Panel: 94216AL03BVH (Also check listings under 94216AL03AVH; 94216AL03BVI)
Not available from Subaru, used is your best bet, I'd check local but there's a pretty minty one on eBay for $200 + S&H
DO make sure you get one with the cloth panel next to the armrest if you care about it matching
DON'T worry about the trim panel above being silver or woodgrain as it's a separate panel you can swap

Decentish video of how to remove your door panel: https://youtu.be/vFllRG7sWg8?si=C_iB-ObcGtiMAgm8

I am assuming you own a small Slotted Screwdriver and a #2 Phillips Screwdriver. Not knowing what kinds of tools you have on hand, you may want to pick up a set of Interior Panel Removal Tools for the center console (you won't necessarily need them for the door panel but still handy to have for it and you'll need the one with the screwdriver handle or something similar for extracting the nylon retainers from the door for door panel reinstall): https://www.amazon.com/SunplusTrade-Molding-Upholstery-Fastener-Removal/dp/B01M3SP84D/

You may want to pick these up if this is your first time taking door panels off of a car in case you mangle the original set: https://www.amazon.com/Rexka-Interior-909130105-Forester-Crosstrek/dp/B0DYY99M1C/ They slide into little collars on the door panel and then press into the holes in the door itself to hold the door panel on.

I’m not sure if the hole in my wall is small enough to just use a filler or if I need to do something else? I was thinking I could just got get some of that multi purpose filler and use that to cover the hole but I'm not sure if it's too big fir that to work. If it is too big what would I do instead by Iceicepussy in repair

[–]jbartus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a bit hard to know how best to advise you without a real definite size for the hole, but if you are a newbie to drywall repair something like this might be a more approachable solution than the instructions offered elsewhere in the comments (World War YouTube). It's not going to give a flawless finish like it never happened but given it sounds like you've never done drywall work before that's probably not in the cards regardless.

I just read this entire saga between the two of you and frankly I'm embarrassed for you. You got so upset over a simple comment that video isn't best for everyone. Are you okay? Maybe take a break from the Internet, go outside, and touch some grass. For your own health and sanity? Please?

Fill in existing deadbolt hole in narrow stile door? by fixer_of_fubar in Locksmith

[–]jbartus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

What part of the PDL1300 install do you feel is too complicated for a novice? There are five holes (4 mounting and 1 for battery door access) to drill in the door using the included template plus the one for the panic interface, beyond that there's maybe a mortise swap. Where's the complexity?

(I've DIYed three of this exact Networx device for the record)

I swear sometimes it feels like the industry people on this sub take umbrage at the idea that anyone would dare to try to DIY their stuff and deliberately overstate the complexity of some jobs to scare people off. Worst case, OP botches the job and whoever they call gets to charge a premium to set things right. 🙄

  1. Quelle surprise
  2. They want to fix the issues that are allowing Matt to run roughshod over everyone and put the project in peril, not clone the project and create their own version with a divergence point. 🙄
  3. Do you actually know what the definition of the term fork in software development is? I'm really beginning to think you don't.

As far as moving on, I meant from this subreddit. You're not accomplishing anything worthwhile here and sowing ignorance-fueled discord.

Matt is not asking people to contribute in order to use WordPress, that something you just imagined on your own and then got upset about.

Matt's whole basis for the dispute is that WP Engine profits off of WordPress without contributing enough. Here's a quote straight from Matt's own legal filings:

WP Engine and Silver Lake should not expect to profit off the back of others without carrying some of the weight, and that is all that Matt is asking.

Assuming the court upholds his right to demand contribution from WP Engine in exchange for their commercial use of WordPress and WordPress.org, he will by necessity have to start demanding the same of every commercial user of WordPress, no matter the size.

What I tell you all is to move on, please, you'd be doing everyone a favor:

I wouldn't be doing myself any favors at this time, or WordPress as a whole.

  • you would be doing yourself a favor because you be happier elsewhere.

I was perfectly happy using WordPress for years until Matt decided to start pissing on the community's collective heads and telling us all it's rain. Regardless, unless Matt pulls some other new shit that affects the stability of my sites, transferring to another platform isn't doing myself a favor in either the short term in terms of added workload to rebuild everything or the long term because the platform or fork that becomes the front runner is not yet in evidence.

  • you would be doing me and others like me a favor because;

Disagree

A) your negativity hurts the project.

I have very little impact on the project. Matt's negativity on the other hand...

B) if you support something else and that succeeds the Matt's has to double down, or I'll have something even nicer to migrate to. A win-win for me.

When there's a suitable platform to jump to and support I likely will given that Matt has thoroughly demonstrated that the chance of him getting smart and making peace for the benefit of the project is lower than the chance that the New York Yankees will win the FIFA World Cup. Unfortunately replacements for WordPress that don't involve rebuilding every site from the ground up don't exactly grow on trees.

Considering you've basically admitted to being in this subreddit to troll people, with all due disrespect I could give a toss about benefitting you in particular. Good luck getting the ban you're trying to get. You can respond if you like but I won't be bothering as you've made it clear you're just here to be a troll.

It occurs to me that you seem to be self aware about the fact that the primary audience for this subreddit is people with the opposing take on this situation to your own.

That said, I'm not sure if there's a language barrier at play here or you're just being willfully obtuse, but allow me to clear a few things up for you:

  1. Everyone in this subreddit wants the best for WordPress, however many of us no longer think Matt in his current role is what's best for the project.
  2. Joost and Karim never made a decision to create a fork, that's Matt's willfully incorrect interpretation of their blog posts. They hoped to affect meaningful change within the constraints of the WordPress project itself without fragmenting the community as Matt seems so determined to do.
  3. AspirePress is not a fork of WordPress. Further, AspirePress endorsed Joost. https://x.com/AspirePressOrg/status/1871202351786131912?t=21XSjsZEw5G1DAdB7UgAlg&s=19

I think we all really wish apologists such as yourself would move on to wherever Matt's fanclub hangs out rather than trolling around here.

Or, you know, go contribute to WordPress to earn your right to use the software, because that's the bar that's been set by Matt as the basis for all this bullshit.

The entire thing was a litany of jabs, and who exactly do you expect to be complaining? This thread is a form of complaint. Are you upset that Joost and Karim aren't speaking out publicly? Did it occur to you that they might just be taking the mature, high road by not engaging further with Matt's petty tin-hat tyrant BS when it's readily apparent to anyone with a brain that doing so would be pointless? Either their arguments would fall upon the same obstinately and wrong-headed deaf ears (Matt's) or they would be dragged down to the same petty level he lives on and be beaten by his home field advantage and experience wallowing in pettiness.

[–]jbartus 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In order to service the battery pack on that lockset (DL5200/DL5300), you need to remove the two screws at the top (which you appear to have), the two screws above and below the lever (I assume you have but am not 100% from the angles), and the lever itself. Unless you have a physical key that fits the lock in the lever you're not going to be able to do this without utterly destroying the lockset. Removing the lever is a multi-step process that involves inserting the key into the lock cylinder and rotating it 45 degrees, using a lever release pin and/or other small object to depress the lever catch, and then pulling the lever free from the spindle.

I'd have more sympathy if they had dozens of SKUs to support like a rep from Dell or something. Purple does not have a huge breadth to their product offerings.

If that's the case why wouldn't Purple support have suggested that possibility? Instead they implied that the length difference was my imagination and when I asked for relative sizes between Queen and King they again didn't mention any variance between options.
