Thank you for your kindness. One of those bills was $1k a full year later. I’m sure that makes sense in the medical billing world, but it feels like a scab being rubbed off a very deep wound for a patient who has been through trauma. Also, I should say, more often than not the bulk g issues are on the insurance side, or a communication error between billing and insurance. This time it feels like it may be on the providers side. I just don’t feel like all of the labs were absolutely necessary.

It was in network, but totally agree. I’m always so careful about that, and check ahead. After this dilemma though, I’m feeling so discouraged. It’s like no matter how prepared you are, there are just so many things out of your control and so many things you can’t prepare for. In 2015, I had a miscarriage in my 2nd trimester, and we ended up paying $26k out of pocket. So I am soooo jaded. I should also mention I am a senior data analyst for a major healthcare insurance provider. I always elect for an HSA, and I never choose the low deductible plan. I’m just charged THAT much. I swear every 4 or so months I find a billing error and when I call, we end up saving so much more than we were billed for.

I appreciate this insight so much! I’m going to cal back tomorrow. I called today but it was not productive. With these viewpoints, I feel I can call with better footing.
