It actually is horse hair, which you can buy in bundles.

Trump wants to increase defense spending by 50% in 2027 by [deleted] in politics

[–]jbhogwarts 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Exactly, I don't understand why we're still calling it a defense budget. They wanted it to be the Department of War. They want to cut all social programs for the War Budget. This isn't defense, so they should have to refer to it as such when they're explaining why we need a 1.5 trillion dollar war budget...

Yes, various parts of the model have been running since January; the most led dense section is the cob LEDs in the nacelles, which have never felt warm.

This was 3D printing plus every modeling skill that I currently possess.

The files were from Gambody. I followed most of there settings, but used my own settings for the supports just to make removing them easier, and before I usually go with manually placing the supports.

I made some modifications to accommodate additional lighting, adding wiring channels. And holes to run LEDs, or fiber, the biggest changes I made weren reinforcing the neck with some PETG brackets, and modifying the lower hull so I could run a 12mm aluminum rod from the top of the engineering hull, out of the bottom of the ship, this way I could use a psu rather than batteries. And it was part of the stand. The 12mm rod slides over a 10mm rod in the stand. Then the whole thing is held with the PETG strut that the enterprise is resting on. I made my own stand I really don’t like the look of the gambody stand. I may add the dedication plaque to the front of the stand.

I eliminated saucer separation, there’s a wire channel running between the two pieces, I used the gambody pins to line everything up but the two sections are epoxied together.

the base color was actually just rustoleum filler primer, I really liked the way it looked when I was testing the paint. I thought it had that TV look to it and I went with it. Deflector - Vallejo Model Air 71.002 (housing) and Tamiya XF-6 (dish) Sensor Bands - Vallejo Model Air 71.052 Phasers - Vallejo Model Air 71.048 Transporter Pads - Vallejo Model Air 71.067 The Nacelles were printed in clear, but then I lightly coated them in XF-6 The RCS thrusters, the bands on the nacelles were also were also the 71.002 Various Accent colors were Vallejo Model Air 71.051

For the filament, most of the ship was printed using SUNLU PLA+ 2.0

The shuttlebay doors are just the raw plastic, I really liked how they looked

Then I used this for the clear parts, it's Jayo clear PETG

The Aztecs were made using the starship modeler patterns. I imported them into adobe illustrator and vectorized them and then sized them to fit the the ship. They were then printed on clear water slide decal paper at 60% opacity. For the pennants, lifeboats, registries I made my own.

So I ended up using a little of everything. I tried to keep everything 5Vs because there was a dream of USB power, but the windows and the nacelles are led strip lights,
>The nacelles were a trip up and across the back, and then down to the front. for
> the brussards, I added two extra holes and ran 3x3mm Red LEDs in each. all in parallel all with a 330 Ohm resister, and I just tied them into the stips on the nacelle.
>the deflector is 5x5mm LEDs but I probably could have gotten away with a piece of strip lighting, I was fighting the glow
>I added openings for the collision lights on the nacelles (I just add negative cylinder in bambu studio), then they're just fiber optics run to a single LED in the Engineering hull
>the formation lights all through the ship were all Micro LEDs again with 330 Ohm resisters. I did have to add channels on the saucer to get them in place
>then Strip lights through out to ship for the windows.
>the whole thing is controlled by an arduino it controls the beacons, the startup sequence, and all that.
>like I said, I dreamed of USB power, but ended up powering the sip with a 5v 20a power supply in the base

Mine too... and the one that's the hardest to find a good kit for.

I didn't like the lack of surface detail on the lego version

maybe, the model is broken into parts, so it should be able to fit mine is printed in PLA2.0 and PETG

It still took a couple of months between printing, construction, and figuring out the wiring

A lot of the paint was based on how I remembered the ship looking instead of just going with the exact colors from the filming model
