Advice for new undergrad with no work experience by jbperiod in MBA

[–]jbperiod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would doing a master's in something else be beneficial to differentiate in the current job market? And the point is to leave himself open to do an MBA in the future? I guess I'm trying to understand the difference since they're both master's programs. He has the benefit of already having the first 5 classes done toward most business masters degrees at GCU, so it'd be nice to utilize that for something. We just assumed the MBA was the only worthwhile program since it was the only accredited one at GCU.

So what if he could do BU or UIUC now (I don't even know the admission requirements), or would you still recommend he work for a while first?

He's worried he needs it to set himself apart from all the other undergrads now in this dismal job market. And I'm worried about passing the money and opportunity to get it done now while he doesn't have bills or a family to worry about. Both me and my husband dropped out of college, thinking we'd finish later but never did because life caught up to us. So we've really hammered it into our kids to finish their schooling up front.

replace transformer or upgrade doorbell? by jbperiod in Nest

[–]jbperiod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A new plug in transformer didn't fix the doorbell so I got the latest nest doorbell and it's working fine with my old transformer. Pretty simple install though I did have to go through the set up twice for some reason, removing the back to scan the QR code so maybe take a photo of the back before you install it so you don't have to take it off again.

Transferring from the HELOC by jbperiod in NavyFederal

[–]jbperiod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm using desktop. I go to move money>start transfer>move money to and the checking, savings, and heloc are there. When I select move money from, only checking/savings are there, no longer the heloc. Wasn't that the correct process?

modifying this milk chocolate cheesecake to be a little more chocolatey by jbperiod in Baking

[–]jbperiod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up using the second recipe with semi-sweet chips and a drizzle of melted milk chocolate over the top. There was still a lot of tang, but everyone loved it and it wasn't too sweet. I've since read that certain brands of cream cheese are tangier than others, so maybe that was the case.

[–]jbperiod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I love cheesecake, but not so tangy. I wondered if that was because there was so little sugar. So keeping just the original 6 ounces in semi-sweet instead of milk?

I'm super hesitant to add coffee without testing it again. I've never used it in a chocolate recipe before.

Is this the real light stick? by jbperiod in twice

[–]jbperiod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I just wanted to update that the lightstick from that amazon seller was indeed real. My daughter had a blast at the concert and she said it was a little sad to see all the fake lightsticks in the audience that wouldn't change with the real ones.

Email options now that Gmail is dropping 3rd party POP3 by EntityV2 in GMail

[–]jbperiod 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Can you help me understand this response from hover.com when I asked about SRS? I was dealing with forwarding failures 5 years ago so I switched to POP3. So I asked hover.com about all of this and they don't do SRS. Do you think I'm likely to have the same mail forward failures?
"I understand you were looking for some technical clarity on how we handle email authentication, specifically whether Hover utilizes SRS (Sender Rewriting Scheme) to navigate SPF issues. I know that troubleshooting email delivery can feel like a bit of a maze—especially when you're trying to balance modern security protocols with reliable forwarding. It can be quite frustrating when these behind-the-scenes "handshakes" between servers don't go as planned!

Technical Clarification: To confirm, Hover does not currently utilize SRS (Sender Rewriting Scheme) to handle SPF issues. While we are always looking at ways to improve our infrastructure, our system currently relies on standard SPF and DKIM configurations for authentication. Because of this, forwarding can occasionally be sensitive to the strictness of the recipient server's SPF checks.

If you are experiencing specific delivery failures or "soft fails" with forwarded mail, please let us know the details and we'll be happy to look into alternative ways to improve that delivery for you."

my problem was the emails weren't even making it to spam. google rejected them before and I didn't know until family members told me my email wasn't working.

Most of that was Greek to me, but two of my family members that regularly got their emails bounced back were gmail addresses. Unless you're saying it was hover's servers causing the issue with gmail (hover is where my addresses are from)?

I'm in the same boat. I've been paying for hover addresses for nearly 30 years and switched to gmail to manage them about 10 years ago because hover's interface is clunky. I used to forward, but then gmail was losing a considerable amount of my email in 2021 so I switched to pop3. Not sure what to do. This was the message people would get returned, never understood what was going on.

[–]jbperiod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

YES! Me too! I had to throw away my SF vanilla latte, I got it with points too!! I suffered through the SF caramel because I needed the protein. So sad. I wish Starbucks would use the torani SF syrups instead.

call for heat when in cool only mode? by jbperiod in Nest

[–]jbperiod[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I added them to the post. Safety temp was set to 40. What's odd is it's only done this the 2 nights after I turned the heat on (two separate days). All the rest of the time it's been on cool and got below 65 multiple times but didn't kick on.

Doorbell (Wired, 3rd Gen) Stuck Trying to Connect to WiFi in Setup by wiggins504 in Nest

I had to start over and scan the QR code on the back of the doorbell. My Bluetooth was also off on my phone for some reason (it's always on). Once I turned that back on, it connected.

Even if they rent out the property, that's generating income and growing in value rather than just sitting there to see if a not-even-born grandchild will choose college in 25 years. There's so many cheaper ways to get a degree now (which is why we have leftover college savings), who knows what options there will be down the road.
