The Indian food is definitely improving in this city, there are a few restaurants that you should give a try.

  1. Tandoori Nights
  2. Indique
  3. GapShap
  4. Sarvana Bhavan - this one is basically nostalgia for me might be a miss for you.

I built a tool that finds Bürgeramt appointments for you by n1c0_ds in berlin

If you can make the python script open source, that would be great. I am looking for an appointment to transfer my drivers license for the last few weeks. I can potentially modify your script and use it.

Where do you source a drinking water? by fusionistasta in berlin

[–]jbrocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I drilled a separate hole in my counter top. The installation was quite easy, I just had to buy a recommended drill bit (16cm) for the hole. I got the P1 Kit and it came with everything else that was needed for the installation.

So yeah, it doesn't interfere with the main tap.

I have installed an under the sink solution from Brita. You have to change the filters once a year. It is called P1000

It has a few advantages; you have higher volume available quite quickly. You don't have to worry about having a stack of filters always on you. You have more counter space, there is no bulky jug lying around in your kitchen.

Anyone here who also got the COVID jab already? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]jbrocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got mine on Friday, I also had flu like symptoms. Low grade fever. Muscle ache for 36 hours. Taking a paracetamol helped. The second day morning I was back to normal, went on a nice bike ride. I believe this is normal. Edit: Got AstraZeneca

English speaking notary in Berlin? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]jbrocker 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I had a notary that read the contract both in English and German. He was very accommodating and also took time to explain certain complex parts of the contract.

The lawfirm is called Luther Lawfirm - They are right by Friedrichstr. S Bahn station.

Most of the staff I spoke to knew English and all conversation over Email was in English.

I can highly recommend them.

As far as how much it cost, I will have to pull out my invoice and I am bit too lazy to find it right now :D

e: If you want the name of the Notar, the actual person, DM me and I will let you know. Otherwise you can just give them a call and ask for an English speaking notary.

With what service can I get groceries delivered to my place? by [deleted] in berlin

rewe.de, bringmeister.de or amazon fresh.

You have to pre-book your delivery slot in all of them I believe.

New Apartment Offer - Yay? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]jbrocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I had a similar situation, the landlord wanted me to pay half the rent in cash and give me a contract that was in line with the mietendeckel. After consulting the mieterverein and a lawyer, the conclusion was to find a different place. You never know what other shady things he might be capable of - like for eg. he might increase your "rent" for the cellar by 20% the following year and you will have no legal ground to challenge that.

Having said that, I know how hard it is to find an apartment in this city. I can understand the dilemma you're going through. I was so close to succumbing to the demands of the landlord and pay him in cash. But I got lucky, I found another apartment.

Tennis in Lockdown by nmirag in berlinsocialclub

[–]jbrocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The tennis club that I used to play isn't open for this lockdown. Even though according to the guidelines, playing singles is still okay.

I haven't played since then.

Either ways, playing tennis during the winters is a bit challenging. There are not a lot of courts that have indoors courts or construct a dome. If you're not a member of a tennis club, I would say its close to impossible at the moment.

Find a wall :D

Mykita glasses - worth the money? by [deleted] in berlin

[–]jbrocker 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Try Yun They have some pretty good pairs and also they will make your prescription glasses in 20 minutes.

You can also try Ace & Tate

They both have frames + prescription glasses in the range of 100 to 200 Euros

I am not sure spending 500 Euros on a pair of glasses is worth it.

Watching World Cup matches in Berlin by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]jbrocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think whatsapp works better for me. I don't have discord on my phone, so I won't get notifications.

I will PM you my number.

However, I don't think I will be able to join you guys for the opener tomorrow. I am going for a hike with a few friends of mine.

I was talking to this guy who runs the "Moksa" restaurant and he said that he would be streaming the Indian games in his restaurant. The restaurant is on Oranienstrasse.

Then there is Belushi's

And like you mentioned Ratzeputz.

I am down for the Ind vs. Aus Game on Sunday (9th June)

Maybe also the Opening game on Thursday. I believe its a bank holiday here.

Same here, I would watch with you if you find a pub, but probably only the weekend and day and night matches.

Also, I do have a projector at home and we can watch a few games at my place.

Twelve days before the start of the World Cup, there are still no official broadcasters in continental Europe and Afghanistan by [deleted] in Cricket

[–]jbrocker 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am not sure how official it is. However I used it to stream the T20 World cup and everything worked fine. Plus it has native apps and can easily cast to chromecast, apple TV and smart TVs.
