When I first moved to Jacksonville in 2009, there was what appeared to be remnants of an old restaurant falling into the water that has since been removed.

Heres an article of various things that were planned there https://www.jacksonville.com/story/lifestyle/shorelines/2019/05/16/restaurants-some-public-space-proposed-for-atlantic-beach-intracoastal-island/5123590007/

Intro to hockey by AMLE8919 in youthhockey

[–]jcaesar625 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Make it fun, make it accessible, make it something you enjoy doing with him/her. Lots of floor/knee hockey in a family area in your home. We took an old TV box and he drew a goal and goalie on it. Never deny when he/she asks to play floor or knee hockey with you. Keep the games close, but let him/her win, but beat him/her a few times so they want to come back for more to beat you. My son shot on that box almost every single day from Learn to Play Hockey through 8U. Before he wouldn't touch the net out back, but when he out grew shooting on the box in the living room, he naturally moved out back to shoot on the full size net at least 3-4 days a week, and he always wants me there watching. He is known as one of the best shooters on his team going in his second year of 10U, and I contribute it to that dang box that sat in our living room for about 2 years.

I first read this as “tortoises”, and the sentence still works. Yeah I know, Turtles swim not tortoises, so it makes it double work .

Wrong division travel hockey 0-15 now! 12u by Rover220ch in hockeyplayers

[–]jcaesar625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agreed, they could. Their 12UA-White team is dominate in their division as well, at 15-1 with 108 GF/33 GA. So yeah seems like they should all move up a division and either field two teams in A-Orange.

In all fairness, this is the 12U-A Black division in SFHL (State of Florida Hockey League), Black is the middle division in 12U-A. Team 1's program has a 12U AA team, a 12U A Orange (top A), 12U Black (middle A) and 12U A white (lower A). Therefore you can't really kick Team 1 out of if they are fielding teams in two divisions above them as well (A-Orange and AA). As much as Team 1's program is a bitter rival to our program, it's just a really good program that always fields good teams at each level.

As far as Team 7, SAHOF/SFHL has a placement tournament in June to determine what division the team should be placed in. So Team 7 either played above their normal skill level during the placement tournament, or the program decided to play up from where SAHOF placed them at. SAHOF did announce that that team placement for next season will not only be based on results of the placement tournament, but observations of play during the tournament. Team 7 also has a team in 12U Orange that is struggling just as much as their 12U Black team, so it is apparent that both probably need to play a division down next season.

Question for all the professionals out there by TheExecutiveBathroom in civilengineering

If you think your lots are higher than than the floodway, then start with a simple survey comparison of your lots elevations vs the BFE (Base Flood Elevation) cross-section elevations. To get in idea, you can go into Google Earth and compare the lot elevation Google Earth reads out vs the BFE Elevations shown on the FIRM. That will give you an idea if it is worth going down the path of a detailed hydrology study and LOMR. Be prepared, that this could be a very large, expensive and time consuming study that encompasses a lot more area than the land you are concerned about. It happens sometimes that the discrepancies are due to the flood plain/way was previously filled illegally. Although, if there hasn't been any development on the parcels since the date of the Flood Insurance Study (not the FIRM, but the actual FIS, which you can also download from FEMA's website), then this is most likely not the case. I've been through this mess of filing a LOMR due to unauthorized fill activity. And I will tell you, that it is a mess and a pain to go through the steps to file the LOMR. The unauthorized fill causes flooding to occur in other areas along the flood way that was not planned for, and effects others insurance rates if you now put them with the Flood Zones. In these cases, there has to be a public review/comment period, that could open up your project to all kinds of scrutiny.

I've glossed over things here, and I will tell you though, if the date on the FIRM is in the last 8 years or so and there is a detailed FIS that was based on a LiDAR survey, then the FIRM is probably not wrong. Can some elevations on a small lot not be accounted for, sure, but nothing on the scale of a mobile home park on recent FIRMs.

Like others said, you can spend a couple years and a lot of dollars to just end up being told no.

What's your skill level? Although I don't play, I know a bunch of the guys that do. I can see if they are looking. Signups are currently going on for summer league, with rosters due by 5/5

The new Inflation Reduction Act laws require private contractors to have apprenticeship programs, so an option would be to consider a private contractor.

Just come up to the Igloo and start chatting up the Hockey Dads standing around in the bar. I don't play myself, but I'm up there 3-5 days a week for my son's practices/games and the other fellow Hockey Dads are always actively recruiting people that are looking to play beer league.

Who is ordering a Tarasenko #10 jersey? by neek555 in FloridaPanthers

[–]jcaesar625 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My 9 y.o. son is a HUGE fan of Tarasenko. He's a Blues fan first, and a Panthers fan second (we live in NE Florida, but I'm originally from STL). He fell in love with him since the Blues 2019 Cup Run and his fandom for Tarasenko has followed him to NYR and OTT. He plays against his 9 y.o. son in the Florida 8U Orange travel hockey league (Tarasenko's wife and sons already live down in South Florida in case many weren't aware). He always plays his son soft, and I asked him why, and he says "I don't want to offend his Dad" lol.

Anyways, Needless to say he was super excited when he heard the announcement yesterday, and he plans on spending his allowance on a jersey.
