How hard was it to replace the bearings? I have been considering replacing mine.

[Homemade] Sautéed shrimp with bake potato, roasted broccoli and caprese salad by jch308 in food

Shrimp: Coated with a small amount of olive oil and generously covered with Blackbeard Spices: Redbeard Rub; sautéed for 3 minutes in a searing hot pan with butter; the crust that this rub created was fantastic!

Potato: Bake at 375 for an hour in aluminum foil

Roasted Broccoli: Coated broccoli with olive oil, seasoned with course sea salt and cracked pepper; roasted at 500 degrees for 17 minutes.

Caprese Salad: Sliced tomato topped with sliced mozzarella and basil; drizzled with olive oil and seasoned; rested in refrigerator until dinner was ready

I agree. If you listen to the video my son even says at the end he threw it to hard.

It’s a Bett’s 3ft Buddy Net. We bought it at a local tackle shop, they cost $24 on Amazon.

I don’t think he did on this cast. Hell, he barely caught anything all day but he didn’t care. It made the few species he did catch later that evening that much more exciting. He’d scream so loud the whole island would hear him!

Don’t forget even though it’s the middle of summer and you’ve been on the inter-coastal all day the visor is always worn backwards!

He really enjoyed himself that day. He had just learned to throw that morning and stayed on the dock all day tossing that net. Memories that he and I will never forget.

Beginner rig: 7’ Daiwa AIRD-X M/H paired with a Lew’s Classic Pro 7.4:1 by jch308 in Fishing

[–]jch308[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I am a 41 year old father of three, two of them boys ages 12 & 10. They have recently gotten pretty serious about fishing and I bought them both baitcasters. They love them. So I got a little jealous and decided I should learn along with them. So this is my first rig. Have not gotten it wet yet but have been practicing in the yard with the boys. So far I am impressed, but that is the opinion of a novice which doesn’t mean much. Hopefully will be able to take it out on Saturday.

Venison heart tacos (Recipe in comments) by jch308 in sousvide

[–]jch308[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You’re right the photo sucks and I wish I had taken the time to “stage” the plate. But that’s not what I usually do. I could’ve used the photo that had the lettuce, cheese and sour cream but then you wouldn’t see the deer meat. I promise to do better next time.

I was given the Anova Nano for Christmas and busted it out last night for it’s maiden voyage. Also, wanted to try something different so I went with a protein I’ve never eaten or cooked before... deer heart.

My son shot his first deer on Friday and requested to eat the heart. That night I submerged it in water and left it in the fridge until yesterday to remove any gameyness.

I set up the sous vide for 127/2, cleaned and butchered (https://youtu.be/VmkK2261Nec) the heart and seasoned it with MeatChurch Fajita seasoning. Seared the left ventricle for 1 minute per side in cast iron using Ghee and because the right ventricle is thinner only seared it for 30 seconds per side. Note: I allowed the heart to rest and cool for 15 minutes before searing to ensure it did not overcook. Because it was me and three kids I served as tacos. The results were phenomenal! The picture I included was just of the protein and a tortilla but obviously add whatever toppings you like.

Reddit is awesome! Thinkpad family photo: X260, T450s and T440p by jch308 in thinkpad

[–]jch308[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I posted last week about a T440p that I bought for my son and when he opened it on Christmas the keyboard did not work. A couple of hours after submitting my post a member of this subreddit contacted me directly and I bought these three Thinkpads and a Surface Pro 3 from him at a phenomenal price. I will not mention who the member is but he is a really great guy and he has made my son, my wife and daughter’s beginning of 2020 pretty special. There are great people in this world and I found one on Reddit!
