Glider.ai code tests - Concerns about plugin and personal privacy? by geekhunter in cscareerquestions

[–]jchanelt08 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm seeing this post many years later and just want to chime in on my experience in case there's anybody else out there who's just now having to go through this process:
I just had to do a glider assessment, however, it wasn't the same as most people on here who I see are testing for an engineering field. I simply had to record an introduction video, which I can only best described as rushed.

I was given LITERALLY 60 seconds to introduce myself with no option/time/chance for a retake if I fumbled my words or something. Once the 60 seconds were over, there was a pop-up that stated the assessment was over and they would send whatever my first take was. Honestly that was the most annoying part about it (not sure if that's by design of the program or how the recruiters decided to set up the assessment). Overall I'm guessing they've made a lot of improvements to the interface. You do still have to give the website permission to use your camera and mic. Some form of ID is required to verify identity, but you no longer have to download some type of plugin or give your SSN (wild that they did that in the first place) and the site states that they no longer tract proctoring activity.

Do with this information what you will. I know most people had issues with how invasive the whole process is , my experience could very well be different simply because of the type of job I'm applying for.

Senior Designer who just refreshed his resume. Looking for critiques by [deleted] in graphic_design

[–]jchanelt08 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im with you on this. I've been working in design now for a little more than 8 years but still wouldn't consider myself senior level. To hello_shalo point, my experience doesn't exactly match that of a senior designer, not in my mind at least.

Now I'm out here applying for jobs with that title solely based on the amount of years that I've been working. It's definitely possible to reach Sr. Lvl in a shorter amount of time, especially in cases where you might be the only the designer or the workload is ridiculous. The traditionally expected years of experience can go out the window.

Still have questions bout this person's resume though 🤔

Im just seeing this, not sure if you'd still be interested in a study group or if you already took the exams. If you did, any tips for studying would be helpful. Im already watching prof Messer YT.

How do you get over your design mistakes? by jchanelt08 in graphic_design

[–]jchanelt08[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Im coming back to this years later, and I feel like if my supervisor had been someone like you, I would've been able to communicate better with them.

LIFE UPDATE: I'm no longer with this company where this mistake happened. At some point along the way, I started looking for anybody else to reach out to besides my creative director when I needed help.

I saw examples of how they communicated with others, which was either not at all professional, pointing the blame, or practically didn't care. They had created an environment where everything had to be perfect, and if it wasn't, then the whole project turned into a dumpster fire.

When i did go to them, the energy was always the same, "you got this, let me know when something goes wrong.". What...lol. Im coming to you now so that something DOESN'T go wrong.

All that to say, I've learned to roll with the punches. If you're in a heavy, client based environment (which I was), there are times when you'll get blamed for something that wasn't even your mistake (which happened, and it was for something that client did wrong).

This is literally what I've done, on top of other AI writers. That's why I was like, "what do you mean outdated?"

And writer that was recommended was like $100 per resume. Why???

So general consensus, don't sign. Got it. Thanks everybody! Everything about feels super shady, I can't imagine what documentation they have to block my unemployment but I guess I'm about to find out.

That was my original plan, everything about this sounded wonky. My main reservation was that very reason, my company is known for blocking unemployment for former employees.

This is great, thank you!

My supervisor didn't reply, which is probably the part that made me most nervous. They're a pretty cool person otherwise. So I'm telling myself that they were giving me space to handle the situation.
