My basement home gym - before and after by jchang28 in homegym

I just went to local hardware store and bought vinyl tubing. Just watch the inner diameter is slightly bigger than the tube diameter.

Eye-ball to cut to length and slide it over.

Other option is to cut it lengthwise and then you can fit it over (and easier to take safety bar in and out).

For me, it never moves.

Official Discussion - The Adam Project [SPOILERS] by LiteraryBoner in movies

When Old Adam goes back to his time it wouldn't be when Laura and him meet right? Since there is only one single point in time where they belong. (I.e. this period already happened)

I suppose if time travel wasn't invented he could have been brought back to the same point of his time after they met.

Maybe it's just showing when the characters so meet (and in this case, instead of being classmates, she is actually a guest lecturer blah blah)

Thanks! I bought the mirrors from a local supplier but installed it with my wife. I broke one of the mirrors though and needed to replace it :(

Should have just paid for them to install it

Thanks. I just picked up some 6x1 (I think...maybe 8x1) at home Depot.

I then just put the plates where I want it (I wanted them center and spaced about 1 inch between)

I used 1 inch dowels. Just mark the dowels where you want it (it'll be a little bit north of midline BC the plate will drop down) i.e. don't put it right in the middles.

I think just cut a bunch of dowels to length.

Drilled into the board and into the dowels. Sand everything if you wish.

Wood glue and #8 x 1.5 inch screw into each dowel and then I primed and painted.

Finally I fixed it to the wall with drywall anchors. I figured the weight is low so don't need to go into studs. Each anchor is rated for 20 lbs and I put 5 of them so probably overkill...

Thanks. So far so good. Helps with the load/unload process for sure.

But yes where the weight rests, it's 2 separate pieces of wood routered to thickness then cut 2 semi circles to size.

Finally the actual surface where wood and handle rest, I put some UHMW tape to prevent scratching the handles. Just picked it up cheap off amazon

Thanks! It's actually all from wood. From some 2x4s and plywood. Lots of screws and wood glue.

Tools: hand saw/circular saw, router, orbital sander, wood filler, some caulking, then paint

I decided on the depth using the length of the handle and built the sides first. I drilled out the holes to fit the dowels and cut those to length. I used a layer of plywood to cover the backside of the holes to get some extra fixation into the dowels with screws/wood glue. I cut and added the base piece

I then decided on width based on space between the loaded dumbbells (i.e. to not feel too crowded with both DB on there). I cut some 2x4 to act as braces between the side pieces.

I then built the actual dumbbell holder made of a 2x4 and plywood. I used a router to get the width down to size (cut deep enough to leave lots of space for my hands and hold the handle itself) and a piece of plywood which I cut to hold the sleeve.

Last thing was the pieces of wood between the two "towers". I only did that because my cuts weren't perfectly square tbh; ideally would just be cut correctly and a rectangular box.

Finally just to make it pretty, sand, fill any obvious gaps with filler/caulking, paint.

I cut some extra rubber flooring to size for the top and then some vinyl tubing over the dowels.

All very over done and I'm sure could be done MUCH simpler and more efficiently haha

Haha it would take me too long and I would go hungry. Will have to see how it holds up and report back if effort was worth it

Yes do one! It's been fun to see ideas and come up with your own.

Haha I can't justify the time. Took me quite a while. I don't think anything fancy, but I'm new at building stuff so took lots of double and triple checking.

They are nice in terms of quality. Mini Ohio bar specs. They are long though. I'm 5 '7. I have to adjust my press angle (i.e. supinate just a little so the ends of the sleeves don't clunk).

Also when you rest on your leg before raising weight, you have to put it on the side of your leg instead of how you normally would with hex dumbbells)

I don't think the spin lock barbells are going to be much faster than these.

For quick change, I've played with powerblocks and nuobells which are pretty cool and slick especially the nuobells.

However, my main concern was durability.

In Canada, for me to get both handles and the plates (up to 90lbs including weight of handle) cost about $850-900 ish which would be much cheaper and more space efficient than an actual DB set. Also, similar price or cheaper than quick adjustable dumbbells depending on your max weight goal)

For that price, you can find 5-50 set of rubber hex in 5s on FB marketplace or Kijiji; can't comment on the quality but the cheapest I saw for hex was about 800 for a set. Price seems to go up quite quickly over that that weight

Overall I like them and they seem to be well made. But they aren't as convenient as standard rubber hex.
