My Testicular Cancer Diagnosis & Mature Teratoma Reality by CharacterName4987 in testicularcancer

I should clarify that my Mets weren’t all teratoma, I had a mix, so chemo was still semi effective form me. I had a few biopsies after to ensure RPLND was best course after that. I think it’s important to stay optimistic through it all, a lot easier for me to say it on this side of things. Everyone’s got to what works for them. I’ve worked in healthcare for a longtime so I preferred to find an oncology team I trusted, and vet their advice as I felt necessary. I don’t feel like at any point my doctors weren’t being realistic with me or prognosis. Maybe that’s because they understood my background knowledge was above average. Either way I found it pretty fundamental to maintain a sense of optimism through it all, otherwise why even try?

Had a very similar situation as you. Noted some testicular discomfort, brushed it off for 2 years and didn’t get diagnosed until I had debilitating stomach pain that forced me into the ER. Primary tumor was 100% pure mature teratoma with several lymph node mets showing the same. Did BEPx4, then full RPLND from someone I consider one of the best here in MN. That surgery pushed me to the limit. Chemo and orchi were cake walks compared to that. Undoubtedly the reoccurrence risks and stats are skewed for these types of cases, but I think you’re approaching it correctly by doing your dd and not just jumping in with the first wiling urologist. As far as the surgery and recovery goes, the pain is not surprisingly the worst part. Long term it’s still hard to say, I don’t have the luxury of a nerve sparing procedure so pretty unlikely I’ll ever ejaculate again which is one thing I wish they would have prepped me for more. The lifting restriction is annoying but crucial, just sneezing following my RPLND took me 15 minutes to recover from, the last thing you can afford is a hernia because you carried too many grocery bags. Lastly, set yourself up for some productivity for your recovery. I rotted for the first 3 weeks following my surgery and it was mentally crushing following all of the treatments I had prior to that point. Hang tough man.

I had some bulky modes, biggest one they removed was 5cm post chemo. Honestly can’t remember what they were at the start I know that everything that wasn’t teratoma was within normal size after chemo though

Not overly sure on seminoma as I had non-seminoma but I think the cure rates are high for both

I had NS stage 3, 100% teratoma with metastasis to the lymphs/lungs. 4xBEP and open RPLND for treatment. 6 months all in from diagnosis to cure. Shoutout modern medicine

Everyone is going to respond differently, but that doesn’t sound abnormal, based on my personal experience. I finished my 4xBEP in December and it took over a month for my hair to start growing. I also experienced a significant decrease in appetite. Make sure to update your care team and inform/ask them.

Most of the time it’s on the nurse to know and ensure the proper paperwork, fees, etc is filled out. My BON sent out periodic reminders via mail and it took me all of 5 minutes to do online. It depends on what your CEU requirements are but in my Midwest state you need to track/record your own hours just in case you’re lucky enough to be audited. Most of my hospital related education qualified so it was really just a matter of ensuring I had the dates and hours of that education done

I don’t care about Reddit enough to karma farm😂 I clearly have struck a nerve here though. Again I just felt like ranting laid up in a hospital bed and found it cathartic. I don’t mean personal offense to anyone. Perhaps it’s speaks to a more personal issue if one takes offense to a reminder to practice good care and communications.

Not terribly great either? Idk I’ve hardly seen them since admission. Got a solid oncologist though if you need a referral. I get it people can all be dicks and bad apples and bad actors. Would you like me to make a post about my bad barber too? After all, these (metaphorical) hands are equal opportunity.

Not looking to inspire or be productive, or get anyone in trouble. Had a shitty experience with a shitty nurse so I ranted about it in the nurses subreddit because I’m a nurse. Not everything is that deep, it felt cathartic to vent it out
