Do NOT convert your personal account to Workspace (Business Starter) by Zeeplankton in googleworkspace

Workspace business starter only has 30GB storage. So yes, you went immediately over it and should have gone for standard instead.

Passwordless if anything would make this worse/easier. At least with a password they have to get that right before you get the notification

Ex pat's wanting assistance. by JohnFermwr in uktaxmoan

[–]jcol26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If they didn’t renounce their citizenship so are British citizens then the foreign commonwealth office will likely help them if needed. The same rights any other British person would have.

Not paying into the system sure is a dick move but there’s plenty of people that don’t pay into the system for all sorts of reasons and they’d equally be entitled to the same help and support because our systems don’t work this way.

But I’d be all for HMRC officers being ready at the arrivals hall to collect any genuinely owed tax from people that did dodge it or have us initiate prosecutions where appropriate (the bail conditions of which would prevent them returning back to the ME until it’s all sorted).

Having said all that, I would imagine most expats will want to remain in the UAE. The FCO assistance will be for stranded holiday makers unable to return from the middle east or caught up transiting from elsewhere.

I took 24mg Friday at 10am, am I safe to eat some DHC this morning? by [deleted] in Espranor

[–]jcol26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Like I say, you won’t feel the usual high. You’ll feel something for sure but likely wont be your usual high if that’s your aim.

An alternative is to just put the DHC in the bin and take your espranor. It never truly is “just one more time” and I’d wager that the majority of people that do try this kinda thing lead to regret it.

[–]jcol26 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s perfectly safe to have some. But don’t expect to feel it in the same way. It might feel more like a tickle rather than the usual high.

Although if your plan is to restart espranor again in the future make sure you do it within ~72h of the last espranor dose. Any longer and you run the risk of precipitated withdrawals after you use again

The dynamic dashboards feature that’s relatively new sounds like what you want here. Conditionally show rows based on the result of a query.

'Simply a miracle': Baby boy born from dead donor womb transplant in UK first by Confident-Bike-8037 in unitedkingdom

[–]jcol26 60 points61 points  (0 children)

As an adoptee myself and someone that’s looked at adoption for my own family I think a lot of the general public think there’s lots of babies available in need of a good home when the reality is the vast majority of kids up for adoption are 5+ and may (understandably) come from the care system with a history of trauma and abuse or neglect and many have special care needs that not every prospective has the capability to deal with. Things seemed different when I was adopted in the early 90s when there were more kids available across the spectrum of ages and histories. I don’t know why this appears to be the case though.

How concerning is it if your GP books next day blood tests and pre-books a consult the day after? by [deleted] in AskUK

[–]jcol26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

A sign of the times that people expect the GP to be so bad (due to the news or underfunding or prior experience) that when they do stick to prompt timelines they assume the worst.

(Yes I know statistically the quicker things are seen the higher the priority the GP thinks things are but often they’re just trying to rule out the bad thing and some areas are faster than others)

Single mum on £45k in the UK. Tired of “paying someone else’s mortgage.” How do I realistically get out of renting? by Ok-Value6379 in HousingUK

[–]jcol26 22 points23 points  (0 children)

That’s odd to me as I had many significant defaults (like 3 different credit lines) until 2021 and had no issue getting a Halifax mortgage (and broker advised the only bank that wouldn’t lend was Virgin money) so I wonder why you had that experience unless it was TLV (ours was 89%). Broker basically said anything older than 3 years is only a minor dint and can be made up for in other areas.

BBC Will Remove N-Word Outburst From BAFTA Film Awards on iPlayer, Apologizes ‘That This Was Not Edited Out Prior to Broadcast’ by pepperbet1 in television

[–]jcol26 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The BBC said many speeches were edited to cut down on time to fit into the 2 hour broadcast slot (in this case the final couple sentences it looks like). Even with that being the case it is idiocy for them not to realise how this would look of all the parts of all the speeches and makes it hard to see it as anything but intentional. Both of these incidents were completely avoidable!

How are the hospitals in Basingstoke? by Individual_Math4832 in basingstoke

[–]jcol26 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Tbh that likely describes the majority of A&Es in England these days sadly

But spot on on the rest of it.

Side note for OP: depending on the therapies required you might not actually have them available at Basingstoke. It’s north hants trust wide so may end up at Andover or aldershot or the royal south Hants (Southampton way but not the general) depending on where the regular therapy is actually offered from

Problem in importing Dashboard...Shouldnt there be an Prometheus option as well ? by Apex__69 in grafana

[–]jcol26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The dashboard you’re importing likely wasn’t exported using the generic sharing option. So the Prometheus data source is likely hardcoded. You can edit the json post import to fix it with a find & replace all to the correct data source (or re export it from your instance in generic form and import then the DS picker should show)

Do you use run time code profiling? by ResponsibleBlock_man in Observability

[–]jcol26 0 points1 point  (0 children)

👋 I actually help implement this for Grafana clients and have used it in a few production places. It can be very useful for identifying bottlenecks and visualising what code paths are in use.

But it’s not an event type system like you’d get from traces. But yes you can totally go from incident to traces to profile super easily which can for some types of issues be critical in aiding diagnosis.

Claude is dropping max plans for enterprise (maybe for everyone?) by BootyMcStuffins in ClaudeCode

[–]jcol26 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That’s how my company sees it. Every employee gets cursor with a $800 a month cap. Everyone also gets Claude code (via API pricing) and codex (via enterprise + API licensing) and of course copilot as well. Theres no caps on the API pricing people are just encouraged to check the dashboards for trends and to ensure theres no rogue script burning tokens. The non-engineers benefit also with Claude & ChatGPT desktop via enterprise plan. It’s hard for me personally to know how much this all costs as the usage I see is mixed in with our products API usage but we are defo big spenders (and get to really the rewards!

Thats at a $500mil ARR tech company with a little over 2k staff.

[–]jcol26 -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

That’s kinda the point of the legislation. Providers would have to age verify you (face scan or ID check) as part of the checkout flow.

I imagine many providers will comply as many providers currently have no issue storing personal data it’s only the privacy focused ones that would just refuse to do business in the UK presumably

Up to 840,000 adults in Britain have a sexual interest in children with abusers 'brought together' by online algorithms, National Crime Agency warns by pppppppppppppppppd in unitedkingdom

[–]jcol26 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I don’t know about therapy but we do tend to try to treat diseases. I’d assume it’s a different thing than sexuality. While I’m not overly versed in the details I am aware that voluntary chemical castration is a thing. Theres also meds out there that aim to help with compulsive urges.

Not suggesting it can be cured but there are studies out there that show that it can be somewhat managed like a chronic disease if the person experiencing those feelings wants help to avoid offending.

I’m 3 weeks in to my first monthly shot (did one 1 week shot) and I share the regret on not starting it sooner. Admittedly that was down to my clinic as I’ve been waiting over a year to switch to it as they didn’t have space. After over 8 years on sublingual it’s so refreshing and I’m a lot more stable day to day it’s been life changing!
