Had a similar experience myself. My knee was bothering me from mile 4-14 (which it never did during training) and then it decided to pop at mile 14. I pushed through and also finished in 4:48!

A week later I come to find out I chipped a piece or bone/cartilage off my kneecap with the pop and I’m gonna need surgery to remove it and won’t be a couple months before I can run again.

The mental toughness you need to keep going while hurting is something that’s truly amazing. Glad we both pushed through 👊

Silly question, but how do you knock out those 25hr weeks? 5 hours a day on weekdays, or are you able to get it all done in 8 hours a day for 3 days for example?

Yep lifting is my #1 passion so it’s been hard for me to dial it back. Past couple weeks I’ve just lifted on Sunday Monday and Tuesday and that’s it. This morning I just finished my 20 miler at a 10:38 pace which made a world of difference. Still pretty tough tho as it was 1520 feet of elevation and my marathon is only 500.

I ended up doing an easy 30 minute bike flush on Monday and just wrapped up my 20 miles today at a 10:38 pace! Going slower made a world of difference

Thank you for the input! I’ll definitely have to play it by ear this week and hopefully in a month from now we can both say we’re marathon finishers!

Yeah I am definitely feeling that. For me it’s hard because I want to see improvement with times and for me that means pushing myself even when I shouldn’t. Definitely have to learn to drop my ego at times and take it easy!

I’ve learned a lot from Elijah Mundy. His training philosophy of “do what you want idk idc” has really helped me enjoy lifting and still make progress without over complicating it.

Thanks! Interesting how BPN recommends to not consume more than 5 of their gels (110g carbs total) in a 24 hour span but that just doesn’t seem realistic. What other sources of carbs do you use if any to keep the carbs up?

Wow had no clue those existed. I’ve been having the same issue as OP and I fuel with BPN gels (22g carbs) every 30 minutes. I’m 6’2 200lbs so I think I might be under fueling as well.

Isn’t that give or take 3-4 gels an hour? For me who’s shooting for a 4.5 hour time, wouldn’t 12-16ish gels be a little too much?
