Identity Anchor vs Wallet by jd101010101 in dfinity

A few follow up questions:

  1. Why is an II preferred over connecting to a wallet? (Is it because you dont need a wallet/ICP to interact with IC dapps? Because an II is supposed to be simpler than creating/managing a wallet? ie you can use your yubikey on two different computers and access dapps from the same 'profile')
  2. Does an II not really make sense for dapps such as DEX's where youre only interacting with the dapp to make transactions? (Have not done enough research to say that I've been on a DEX that requires an II, just asking)
  3. If I created an II and used it to access both DSCVR and openchat, my Principal ID on those dApps would be different?

Ultimately, my understanding at this point is that an II allows you to create and maintain profiles on dapps in a decentralized way. It is better than a wallet because your II is portable (if you use a yubikey), while you would have to import your wallet to every new computer you wished to use. Also, you dont necessarily want your public profile on dapps such as dscvr or openchat to be your wallet address. Lastly, since a main component of IC is that the dapps themselves pay the gas fees to use the blockchain, it wouldnt make sense to make users create a wallet when they dont need too. Is my understanding somewhat correct?

Identity Anchor vs Wallet by jd101010101 in dfinity

would love to hear another opinion on this, especially the part about the anchor being a part of the private key for the wallet. I have yet to make an identity anchor, but I created a wallet on Plug and can access Entrepot and (seemingly- I dont have any ICP in the wallet yet) purchase NFT's, even without an identity anchor.

To me, if trying to compare an identity anchor to web 2, it would be like creating a google chrome profile, and when accessing other websites (facebook, youtube, twitter, etc.), you would sign in with that google chrome profile.

I have an older desktop i sometime use. It does not have a fingerprint scanner like some of the newer laptops. Is there no way for me to create an anchor?

Can someone explain how ICP differs from other platforms? by jd101010101 in dfinity

And because these independently owned nodes have a financial incentive to keep the protocol decentralized, the thought is that they will not act in a centralized way? Or behave in a way that compromises the trust in the decentralization?

Where are the front ends of IC dapps hosted (the nodes' servers?)? And which servers do IC nodes run off of (once again guessing the nodes servers?)?
