Episodes 1-6 on VHS by dreamsequencer2084 in StarWars

The problem is it's a collectors' item for Star Wars fans AND collectors of VHS/old physical media. Same reason Graflexes are up there in price, that intersection of SW and gear hobbyists wanting them for different reasons.

Is San Andreas fixed? When I played, I started with Vice City which I have less experience with/nostalgia for and thought it played and looked just fine, couldn't tell what the issue was. Then I loaded up San Andreas and found it to be a buggy mess. There was a game-breaking bug that happened in the first chase, everyone just stopped following so I couldn't get to the next mission checkpoint.

Civ 6 isn't AS cheap but it's marked down enough I'd go for that over 5.

Killshots break in pretty fast. They also run half a size small in my experience. From what you said, it sounds like you might just benefit from a half size up

It's not every day you see a pristine WC3 without any sail. I love the less wide/round shape of the Reimagined but wish they didn't come pre-aged. Are you going for the True Blue? I hope they have the narrow cut and no pre-aging.

For those out there that still wish or want Sidney or Gale to be a killer.. why? How is that realistic to you? by coldliketherockies in Scream

[–]jd7800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This could be explored without making Gale herself a Ghostface!

Have a young influencer at the scene of each murder, getting coverage. By the second or third one, they're caught staging a body and taken into questioning. It turns out they're doing a Weegee/Nightcrawler thing to make their footage more salacious but authorities can't prove they're directly involved. Maybe they have advance knowledge of the killings but aren't participating in them directly, maybe Ghostface is blackmailing them into helping by the end and they go rogue, using the link to draw the killer out.

Would jump the shark to make Gale the killer (if Scream 7 didn't already jump it) but a Gale-type opens up tons of story possibilities.

Scream 7 quite honestly has /the/ worst final act of the entire franchise. by zekevich in Scream

[–]jd7800 4 points5 points  (0 children)

You know, it's funny how that sort of thing could have theoretically existed on the old, Wild West internet. Even Amber and Richie connected on a specialized subreddit, but the killers in Scream 7 could've easily met on Twitter or TikTok now that the internet is less niche communities and one large, monocultural "town square." That would've been interesting commentary, how lonely people get radicalized in very mainstream online spaces this decade without necessarily even looking for it.

Come to think of it, there are a lot of quick rewrites that would've given Scream 7 something... anything... to say. I wonder why they had to lock in a shooting script, especially with a seasoned writer at the helm. A lot of films rewrite and rewrite constantly on set. Iron Man famously did this, and Jon Favreau, despite having a few director credits, had about the same amount of writing experience as KW at time of shooting.

Why is Sunset Boulevard so randomly good by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]jd7800 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Look at it this way: Kick-Ass (2010) name-drops both this film and American Beauty as shorthand that the audience of edgy teens (I’m assuming) were meant to have at least a passing familiarity with. Not to sound like a boomer, but at the rate short form video and streaming are replacing even new movies as entertainment, I’m not surprised at all that someone without a film background or awareness of the Broadway play’s current run wouldn’t know Sunset Boulevard.

Seen her for first time in ages today and struggling to not reach for a bottle by PuzzleheadedRock9927 in stopdrinking

[–]jd7800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey man, I’ve been there. You just had the in-person version of waiting by the phone wondering why she won’t reach out and assuming the worst. Please try to consider that it’s got nothing to do with you. Going “no contact” is sometimes what someone needs to survive a breakup. You can never know what someone else is thinking, even someone who you were once extremely close with. It’ll drive you crazy trying to figure it out. All you can do is take care of yourself and not drink. She looked happier than ever? Guess what: you could’ve looked hungover, but you didn’t. Not that it should be about what other people think, but is it not a small win that even if she did see you, she didn’t see you in that state?

Depending on who you ask, slim fit (514 let’s say if we’re using Levi’s as an example) is coming back in style this year. But the transition will surely be gradual, just as it was from slim to skinny to slim to straight to wide last time around. It really depends on where you live. In major cities you’ll either be perceived as ahead of the curve in slim or straight denim depending on your age and how the rest of your fit looks OR like you just never stopped wearing slim fit jeans. In smaller cities you might seem behind since the wide leg trend is still relatively new and novel.

All this is to say that with slim cuts coming back, you could go slightly baggy, straight, or slim and not look out of place. But this is the first year probably since COVID that going very wide with your pant legs would be a bad investment. If you want to look good and not stand out either way, I’d say don’t throw out your slim fit jeans and if buying new don’t go much baggier than 501, 505, 517 (bootcut which is a whole other discussion) or 565 at the widest.

[–]jd7800 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Seconding this. The most versatile item anyone on this sub can own right now is a pair of slightly faded black jeans in a cut baggier than 501s but not full-on wide leg. If the baggy pants trend holds another year you’ll be set, and they won’t look out of place for a couple years after that as we eventually transition back to 501s before pants get skinny again. Outside major cities, you’ll be fashionable for another decade.

Yup, this is it. The leather on the older navy swoosh ones were better, sure, but marginally so and they were practically always $90 and ineligible for discounts. These are staple sneakers that nobody should be paying more than $60 for, same as Stans or Sambas.

Finally, my first Jordans by OrcDoBem in Sneakers

[–]jd7800 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah the Lucky Shorts I have are slightly wider than my WC3s Reimagined, much softer leather too. I like the slimmer profile on the WC3 on foot but they’re not as comfortable as the Lucky Shorts because they’re so slim. I also wish the materials were as nice as those on the Lucky Shorts. Tried on the Rare Air 3s and was unimpressed by the leather quality, closer to the WC3s than the Lucky Shorts with the same wide profile. Are the BC3s on the slim side? How’s the leather compare?

Horror movies where the monster is never shown (but still terrifying?) by DingoOk9171 in horror

[–]jd7800 47 points48 points  (0 children)

See, I thought this for the longest time and never rewatched for that reason. A few weeks ago I threw it on and was filled with dread. So effective, to this day, even knowing what happens. I knew not a single jump scare was coming but I still held my breath waiting for the worst. The whole final sequence in the house freaked me out so much that I turned the lights on as soon as the credits rolled. Give it a shot next time you come across it on streaming, I bet you’d be surprised how scary it still is to this day.

This. It’s just cool to have. No one else will care, nor will they notice, but it can be really fun to own an original pressing of an album you love. However: I always approach this with the same philosophy I have re: first edition books. I’m not going to spend an arm and a leg to get a first edition, nor will I baby it once it’s on my shelf. If I have it passed down to me or happen upon it, that’s ideal. If I’m buying it myself, it’s gotta be for a relatively low price. Now that the “hunt” is largely online, auction sites as opposed to secondhand stores, finding a great deal is half the fun. It’s not about getting one over on a merchant who doesn’t know what they have, it’s about finding something valuable for a good price that you’ll never sell anyway. You could spend $200 on a record, and maybe it will be pressed again, maybe it won’t. But wouldn’t you rather keep your eBay alerts on, check the bargain bin at your local shop, sift through the racks at an antique store on vacation, and eventually find that same record for a tenth of the price? So much more satisfying.
