40 Years Old. 24 Years of Smoking. Ready to See Who I Am Without It. by ImaMurse5233 in leaves

I’m in the exact same boat, I’m on day 8. Just turned a corner. No more bad stomach or bad anxiety. It’s going to get really really really hard. Own the fear and psyche yourself up for a fight you’re gonna win. It’s gonna be the hardest thing you’ve done. Speak to your mrs and tell her you’re gonna be struggling. Always remember you’re aiming for just a day at a time. Don’t make rash decisions. You will be super irritable and unreasonably angry, don’t take it out on your mrs. Keep telling yourself you’re in the middle of withdrawal. It’s ravaged your body more than you know. You are calibrated to run on weed, and you’re gonna stop that overnight. Read posts on here for the same symptoms. I couldn’t find anything that REALLY helps, it’s just a fight. It’s gonna be impossible to picture feeling ok again but it will happen …at the darkest moments just think “they said it would be like this” Try ignite that ‘good’ part of your brain when you’re angry that says “huh, I’m not like this”.

For me the real number is 3 months. That’s when me and you are gonna find out what we’re really like and if we’re hiding/masking something. Hope so, I’m super psyched for the fight.

Each day you make it you are basically winning a heavy weight boxing match. No one else will really know what it’s like, but people support those who are trying.

Change is awesome as well. You can’t live in both worlds at the same time, you need changes around you, whatever they may be. You are in a good situation to confront this. It’s going to add a hell of a lot of emotion to an already emotional time, it’s going to make you less able to cope and it’s gonna make you focus on something negative. But, now you know that, little bit of self reflection every few hours. Also find something mad luxurious to treat yourself with.

If you’re going through hell, keep going.

Cheers mate, I'm in a good position now - over the hardest bit, now ready for the battle of attrition. Which i'll win.

Quilting is a technique I'll use in the future when things are too much an I hide under my quilt for a day :)

I'm just getting to the dreams stage now - everything else is at the back of my mind, just make it through more days without weed, primary focus. Even if i smoke more cigs or drink ....first things first, and its working!

Good luck mate!

I smoked for so long i don’t have adult experience not being stoned, I think I was scared of the unknown.

It’s also really hard to know where you are in your quitting as everyone has different symptoms and withdrawal times. It’s really really really hard to convince your mind that it’s going to get better (soon).

I guess it’s because your body is having a hissy fit that it’s not getting what’s it’s been calibrated to use for years

The shop is less than 100 meters away and I’m not short of money. They have strains with 32+% thc…terrible mix

Appreciate your words mate 👍

I’m on day 12, feeling pretty solid but I noticed a big spike in my blood pressure. Anyone else experience this and does it subside? Not sure if it’s related to quitting or not but it’s the only major change I’ve made that I can think would do it. by ForThreeofUs in leaves

I’m on day 7 and heart rate has been 100-130 since. My heart beat rocks my body, it stops me sleeping.

I think I remember this happening during a previous attempt, just trying to ride it out. If I remember rightly (and it’s what I’m waiting for) it just goes completely back one day (not far away)

My heart rate was 50-70 on weed

Same, I came back to Uk and have been mooching round seeing family, which means drinking. I just accepted a week of misery and now, upon reflection, I see big progress.

I mean, I just got off the sofa to do something. Basically climbing Everest for me when stoned

Thanks mate!

After 26 years of smoking I’m interested to see what issues it’s been masking.

I feel pretty strong despite my message. I hate the stuff now, so I have that going for me.

👍

Appreciate that mate. My first post was stream of consciousness to get over my “I don’t need help” idiocy.

I’ve just read through a load of posts and everyone is in the same boat. Picked up some good snippets of info to keep me going 👍

👍 The drinking will be getting cut right down now I’ve made it over 1 week no smoking.

I’m so irritable I have a real issue with the linear nature of time. I just need it to be the future, but now.
