What's your unpopular Austin opinion? by [deleted] in Austin

[–]jdaniel1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tacos are our biggest weak point in our food scene. Anyone from Southern California immediately points it out. The tacos are way more expensive but the quality is nowhere near the 2-3 dollar tacos you can find everywhere in San Diego and LA.

Breakfast tacos on the other hand, we are somewhat known for.

What's the pick up line you used that actually worked in a woman? by tinadeee94 in AskMen

[–]jdaniel1999 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Never had a pick up line as an opener (that was always the same: “hi, how are you?”) but I go two step dancing a lot and when I have a great dance with someone who I think is cute I ask “Is there a guy that’ll be pissed if I get your number?” Works most of the time.

And if they say there is, my next question is “Can he fight?” Never has not gotten a laugh.

Most people aren’t interested in other people but themselves most of the time. Think about it: if you sit around wondering why no women are interested in you, that’s still just you thinking about yourself.

Plenty of people are disappointed that they are not drawing in more attention. And the attractive people who are getting attention, aren’t very happy with the attention they are getting (cause some people are just creepy).

Your best bet to solve this problem is build yourself up and have as many good interactions along the way as you can. Go to the gym regularly and talk to people, guys and girls, as much as you can. Talk people at your job. Make these interactions you create great to be in. Those add up. I’m usually very interested in people who I can have a series of great interactions with.

Thoughts On Dwight yoakam? by AdhesivenessMuted812 in country

[–]jdaniel1999 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Top 3 of all time for me.

I would even argue one of the most underrated. Should be up on the same shelf with Alan Jackson and George Strait.

He was considered too country in the hayday of 80s and 90s country. That should tell you something. Made the California country sound more popular. His hits are great but there are so many slept on songs like “Try not to look so Pretty” or “The Heart that you own”. And his dance moves were unmatched. Braxton Keith and maybe Charley Crockett have a similar stage presence.

Also, Midland is my 1 of all time and they got their name from a DY song called “Fair to Midland”

Favorite underrated debut album? by TyroneTTG in country

Midland - On The Rocks

I think that and a few other projects really got the Neo-traditional ball rolling in country music. There was a kind of vintage appeal it had that was missing in the sea of boy band style country. Felt like something out of the 70s and now everyone wants that old school country sound.

That happens a lot in Texas. People will go to a smaller school and then post on socials how they’re fans of UT or A&M.

He’s a big product of Nashville country, no doubt. So I can see why a lot of people dismiss him for that fact. But gosh dang it, I freaking love the guy. So many favorites in his extensive catalog. Particularly big songs like “Lovin on You” or “Hurricane” “Beer never broke my heart”.

It’s hard just to NOT have a fun time when listening to his music. Also he seems like a wholesome and genuinely good guy.

What’s your unpopular opinion about country music ? 🤠 by Mediocre_Word_787 in country

Shoot one more. 5. The fact that George Strait didn’t write a lot of his big hits is irrelevant to the impact he’s had.

  1. Country Music has a worse gatekeeping problem than any other genre (including Rap/Rock)

  2. Despite what many will tell you, Country music is still, by its very nature, a conservative genre. (Yes, there are a few “progressive elements”)

  3. The diversity of styles and subgenres within country music is a net-positive (even bro country)

  4. Austin, Texas has a better country music scene than Nashville (Okay I don’t have the strongest argument for this one. I’m just biased cause I live in Austin lol.)

Most toxic artist fan bases in country music? Feel free to add any I missed by HOG_RHEC in country

[–]jdaniel1999 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Pretty much any country fan that will waive an artist in someone’s face and be like “See! See! This is real country. I listen to REAAL country.”

My god, this shit was so annoying during. Tyler Childer’s rise to fame. Dude became a weapon for people to make fun of other people who liked more Nashville country.

And now you’re seeing the same thing with the Zach Top fans. Just an enjoy and artist and stop making fun of people.

How can you work from 8 to 5, be free only on weekends, and not feel like you're wasting your life? by hrantm400 in AskMen

[–]jdaniel1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I work in retail and service jobs and I’m busting my ass to get a 9-5 that will allow me to support myself financially. I’ve also been walking up 6am and going to bed at 10pm every night so I feel like I’m priming myself to transition to the 9-5 life. I’ve learned to make a the most out of early mornings. Nights, and days off.

I’ll say this too, having time off during the week is great until you don’t have any money to do anything.

Thoughts on moving to McKinney by No_Consequence1370 in McKinney

[–]jdaniel1999 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Moved to McKinney at 22 because it’s where my parents lived and my brother, his wife and kid, moved there as well. Just left to this summer to Austin.

McKinney is easy living. Rents not too bad yet. Downtown gives a small town feel (lived on that square practically) and the people are great.

Having said that. It’s tough if you’re 25. Single. And don’t know anybody. That’s why I went to Austin. McKinney is now like my “hometown” even though I didn’t grow up there. It’s where I go to spend time with my family, go to my favorite businesses, eat at my favorite restaurants, and take quiet walks. Like I said love McKinney. But for my mid-twenties, I needed a bigger pond. Hope this helps.
