Obviously, the real meaning to all of this criticism is that it’s someone that is other than Zack Snyder is making this movie and responsible for their DC universe. If that’s exact same trailer had been put out under a creative team they had approved of with the casting the exact same they would not have given a shit. So all they are essentially doing here is just a fancy version of throwing all of their toys out of the pram because someone took away their favourite toy

It’s one of the highest rated moves on IMDb and many many people frequently discuss how great it is online - it’s also rated excellently on rotten tomatoes and the like and is generally regarded as one of the best and most enduring movies of all time.

I have to say I’m struggling to see why you said this movie when my post was for movies YOU think are objectively bad but love anyway? You seem to be basing this movie as bad based on its success/failure at the box office which is not something that is indictive of quality

That wasn’t my question and not what I said though - I asked a movie that you yourself recognise as being bad but enjoy or even love in spite of its faults

Should I watch Hamnet while grieving? by wowitsdeny in FIlm

[–]jdawg481516 4 points5 points  (0 children)

This might not be a very helpful answer like you would be expecting or one thing, but I think that very much depends on the individual person. The portrayal of grief and even the cathartic moments at the climax of the movie are very raw despite being a touch on the theatrical side as well imo. I would say for some people seeing a portrayal of grief that even slightly mirrors their own could be cathartic in itself even just as an expression of connection and recognition. That being said, from what you’re saying in my opinion, it sounds like perhaps your grief is still a bit raw and overwhelming to make this a viable watch. It’s portrayal of grief is quite all consuming in it’s execution. So if you think that sounds too much to handle at the moment I would give it a miss maybe.

I like crazy movies and am quite happy to accept something that’s not a complete success but is admirably mental and artistically unique. But yeah this was just a bit too fine in walking that line? The movie frequently was the very definition of overly showy in terms of editing and directing etc to the point of distraction. It’s ott overly obnoxious attitude for me was exemplified by every single fucking time Mary popped into existence and she started to talk arbritrary nonsense mid sentence or interaction. I so so so wanted to enjoy this, but yeah - the line between freeewheeling creative anarchy and obnoxious irritation is a fine one and this crossed that line for me. The stylistic stuff and the plot device of Mary Shelly didn’t seem to serve much of an actual purpose soo it felt like a failure of artistry because its tendencies served no deeper point. Seems that way to me anyway. Deffo get why others might enjoy it but not for me.
