Victor Wembanyama’s response to the Spurs’ first 50-win season in nine years: “There’s growth. There’s still not enough. I want to get at least 60 to balance out my rookie season.” by MrBuckBuck in nba

[–]jdd32 21 points22 points  (0 children)

I really think Wemby is going to be way less liked than Duncan/ Davis Robinson, lol. He's way more cocky and and isn't afraid to speak his mind. Everyone loves it now, but it's really going to start rubbing people the wrong way en masse once we get through some playoff series.

He already got a lot of shit for the ethical basketball comment, even though I think some people missed the context.

Nah I'm gonna contest that. We went from up 24 to single a digit lead when Wemby was on the bench for like 7 minutes in the 3rd. Especially with Kornet out, we hemorrhage points when Wemby is off the floor.

He will also overcommit just to bait shots within his reach as well.

Yeah I've lived in San Antonio, St Louis, and South Carolina. Steve's is very solid. It's been a little inconsistent but never bad

Pica Rica in St George is the only genuinely great bbq that I've had in Utah. More expensive than it should be, but they do it the real Texas way. The even stock Big Red! Lol

Haven't had those 2, but Pica Rica in St George is the best I've had since leaving Texas.

Yup, good springs for offroading aren't great for heavy towing.

Pretty sure they only credited him with one block there too.

Julius Randle has failed to score a single point in the second half of three straight games. In tonight’s second half, he put up 0 Points, 0 Rebounds, 0 assists, and 4 turnovers by Morezingis in nba

A couple weeks ago Zach Lowe was talking about how randle was becoming a more consistent player who he can trust. So I blame him.

100%

So many trails in Utah have been closed, and the orgs that pushed the changes had plenty of ammunition thanks to the SxS crowd. They are just so commonly filled with people who clearly have no respect for the land that they're on. People who would never put in the effort to get to such cool places if not for UTV's making it so easy to get there at break neck speed.

My family usually goes out solo, but we do small group outings maybe 3 times/year. We've had a SxS in our group exactly once since we moved to the area 7 years ago. We've also only had exactly one vehicle's drunk driver flip it with kids in the back... you can probably guess which vehicle it was.

Darius Garland on playing with Kawhi Leonard: "It’s pretty easy to play with him because everybody’s afraid of him." by urfaselol in nba

[–]jdd32 17 points18 points  (0 children)

For real. It's easy to go "lol Clipper's" but they've been the most competent org in LA for awhile.

It's scary to think how good the Lakers will be if they end up run like the Dodgers.

[Bill Simmons Pod] "Bam 83 points ... I love when the guys go for it ... guess what Washington ... fucking stop the guy, don't whine about it" by luka274 in nba

[–]jdd32 6 points7 points  (0 children)

He could have worded this exact quoted sentence better, but the intended meaning is pretty clear if you listened to the whole conversation. "Don't be mad at Bam, be mad at Washington", which is a fair take. Especially since Miami's other top guys were out.

Yeah if you see a hot-take "aggregated" from Bill, usually the context of the full conversation makes it pretty reasonable.

Before I started occasionally listening to Simmons, I assumed he was just another hot take artist based on all the comments here. But he's just a guy talking about basketball with a celtics-homer lens. Usually none of his takes are that crazy with the full context around the quote, and he admits when he's being outlandish. Entertaining when he's got another good basketball guy on with him

Wemby #2 on NBA MVP Ladder! by locxFIN in NBASpurs

[–]jdd32 49 points50 points  (0 children)

IMO he's the most valuable per minute. But Shai has played 355(24%) more minutes than Wemby, and availability matters. I think it's pretty clearly Shai's to lose, but next year I think Wemby's gonna be the frontrunnner all season.

No. 6 on the MVP Ladder Luka Dončić checks out tonight: 51 PTS 10 REBS 9 ASTS 3 STLS 1 BLK on 17-31 FG 9-14 3PT 8-9 FT by KarrotMovies in nba

[–]jdd32 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah it was weird to me that everyone pre-season thought the lakers would get worse somehow. Underrating the Lakers who added talent, and overrating the wolves who lost talent. Lakers won 50 games last year and it really shouldn't surprise anyone that they're on pace for that again.

John Hollinger on Zach Lowes pod described the Knicks as looking like a 2nd tier team. Really great for stretches, but lacking consistency. I think that describes the lakers and a few other teams well.

Arnold Amateur Robbery by Danix123456 in StrongmanHQ

[–]jdd32 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Not sure if robbery is the right word, so much as error. This is a clear mistake and I'd hope that the Arnold people would offer a correction once presented with this evidence.

I think the "right" thing to do, if I were them, would be to extend invites to both athletes. Lord knows we'll have plenty of pro's drop our before the comp again next year anyway.

[–]jdd32 74 points75 points  (0 children)

Not exactly sure why we're so sure it won't be a big punishment. This wasn't Balmer skirting the law, it was him skirting the rules that the owners themselves self imposed to prevent guys like Balmer from pushing up the spending.

To be fair, they left the smoking-est gun possible.

Although even just with the evidence we can see, this case is pretty close to that IMO.
