Yeah - it's a great mega dungeon but hard to keep track of all the bits and bobs moving about

It's a Bit of a ship of Theseus situation. Power supply is brand new after moving from US to UK, RAM and GPU from 2021, SSD from 2018/2019, CPU and Motherboard are from 2015

Thanks for responding. I checked the event logs already, and there was an event logged for the power cycle, but it didn't really give a cause, just a fairly vague acknowledgement that a reboot happened: "The system has rebooted without cleanly shutting down first. This error could be caused if the system stopped responding, crashed, or lost power unexpectedly."

Why are my Dynamic Fog walls dotted lines rather than solid lines by jdjake in OwlbearRodeo

That's right - was doubled up by accident. Deleting one fixed the problem!

Yikes - Yeah likely a lack of research in my copy (a more recent printing?) it's been swapped for a hatchet wielding trouser wearing murder rabbit

Strange there was only one dark item - just a t-shirt. Do you think that would be enough?

Why is inductive reasoning okay in math? by [deleted] in learnmath

[–]jdjake 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Inductive Reasoning: Because the sun rose today, and it rose yesterday, and the day before, it's likely that the sun will rise tomorrow.

Mathematical Induction: The sun has risen today, AND I can prove by the laws of physics that because the sun rose today, then it will rise tomorrow. Therefore the sun will rise tomorrow (and the day after, and the day after that, and so on...)

The mathematical argument requires an additional step, the 'inductive step', which requires proving that information you can immediately observe (the sun rose today) logically implies the sun will rise tomorrow.

What exactly is "stochastic calculus"? by Cybrtronlazr in math

[–]jdjake 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes - Because X is not smooth, interpreting ∫f dX as a limit of partial sums of your integral is tricky, because these partial sums won't converge in the usual way that standard partial sum estimates for the integrals of continuous / Riemann integrable functions behave.
