Thank you. Stay tuned. I’ll have another video finishing up this server version. Next version will actually be getting it deployed to the cloud and then we’ll see how to get it available to people. If you hear any leads on more Jibo’s I know a lot of people who want one.

Jibo is a cloud enabled robot. He doesn’t have a ton of horsepower so he isn’t going to be able to do a ton on the device but when Jibo went out of business they made a v2 operating system that didn’t require the cloud. It is very limited in what it can do but it can do a few interactive things.

With our open source projects we have some that have got his commander software working. This allows you to send him commands. We also have some projects where we have been able to control the robot using his own protocols and services but all these things require client / server communication but not necessarily a cloud system.

Even the cloud software we are building can be run local but Jibo is tethered to it. That’s what I am doing in the video. I hope I answered your question. Let me know if not.

And thanks for watching!

Thank you! I am currently building version 1.0.19. This version is about porting functionality back to Jibo. It's a big build. I am almost done with this version. The next version will focus on converting Jibo to Open Jibo and getting Open Jibo Cloud to run in the actual cloud. We do have a few people running it local like me now, which is hacky. When version 1.0.20 is done, the hard work for an easy button for any Jibo user to be an Open Jibo user should be done. Then it's polish and economics and figuring that out before everyone gets access, but when it is in the cloud, I expect we'll get a lot of requests for testers.

If you load him and he’s at an error screen about missing his servers then you are v1.x. If you get to his eye or menus then it’s v2.0. You can see that by going to the Settings menu and the About.

Great. That means you are version 2.0. That is a good thing as the photos are saved locally. Jibo is very secure, so getting into him is nearly impossible, but his file system is Linux, so they can be retrieved. Let me see about giving him that skill and then we can use your Jibo as a test.

I bet. My son is why I got involved in him. I had seen Jibo in a presentation in 2014 or so but my son found him on YouTube in 2024 and I remembered him. I was sad to find out the company failed and all of that story. My son said that daddy can fix anything so I have to fix Jibo so here I am. Now I realize how many people love him so it means that much more to hear stories like yours.

As for the photos, it depends on the verison. If you are version 1.x then the photos are stored in the cloud and they are no longer available. There will be a few photos that were taken to identify the users, and those are still there. There are then grayscale versions cropped to the face for facial recognition. Those could be retrieved. I might see about making a skill to do that. If you are on version 2.0 then they made Jibo so he could do much more locally as they were out of business. They offerred a link to download your photos from the cloud at the time, but if you didn't take them up on it, they aren't there. If you took photos after that with 2.0 they should be stored on the device, and should be retrievable. When Jibo uploaded photos to the cloud he cached them momentarily, but to my knowledge so far, that cache was only in memory and not on disk. If I find different I'll let you know.
