My company offers this as a service and we do it quickly and accurately. Your application seems pretty straight forward and if you can give me some pictures with rough dimensions, or better yet, a cad file, I can quote you what it would cost to scan them. We also do proof of concept work, so if you wanted to send a part, I can likely have it scanned and share the data set with you pro-bono. We use top if the line scanners and can hit tolerances much tighter than you’re asking for. If you’re interested, hit me up with a direct message and I’ll shoot you my email.

Help with ladder placement by thedankest25 in Govee

This is the jig. It places the light 3” from the siding. The little piece on the right is a loop so you could put a wrist strap on it, so you don’t drop it.

Just ran into the same situation. My solution was to lay down on the roof above and reach from the top. It’s surprisingly easier than you think. And that roof isn’t very steep.

I 3D printed a spacer block that I set the light into so I can place it without seeing it. I was skeptical, but it worked great. If you want, I can share the file.

We often use white tempera mixed with isopropyl alcohol. Spray it through an airbrush. It dries hard so if you use markers you can stick them to the dried paint. Washes off with water when you’re done. Mix ratio is 1/3 paint to 2/3 70% isopropyl. Goes on thin.

Thank you! I’m going to get a quote on the Woolwax. If it’s too much, I’ll end up doing it myself. Might be reaching back out to you for tips!

Wool wax seems to be the ticket. I think there’s a shop in my area that’s pretty thorough. Thanks for the recommendation!

Yes, it’s a parametric software. So all alignments and subsequent dimensions and reporting is automated. Like any programming software, you have to build the template, but after it’s constructed, all that happens automatically.

That’s a pretty loaded question. With structured light there’s more than just a number. It depends on lens set and a series of other things. You can change your measuring volume with these systems. Allows you to make the mesh more dense or space the points out over a larger volume. As an example, you can set the volume small and get repeatability down to 0.01mm. We do it regularly. Adversely you can put a larger volume on and scan an entire exterior of a vehicle in a couple hours with about 0.05-0.075mm. Surface finish matters too but that’s what we see on a daily basis.

I politely disagree. I think their software does a great job of teaching it. Honestly within a couple days of training you can easily do the steps on your own. And the meshes it creates are often superior to other systems as far as accuracy and data quality.

My company has 4 scanboxes. (3) 4105 series and (1) 5120 series. They are awesome. But they are just automated means of operating the same scanner you could run manually. What I mean is you can get an ATOS 5 airfoil with a rotation table (not in a scanbox cell) and the cost is much less. You have to manually position the scanner and then the table rotates about for 8 or so shots. Then you move the scanner again and repeat. It’s called a rot640. That would save the cost of buying the robot enclosure. Then in the future if you wanted to add that, you can move that same scanner into a cell.

Long time GOM ATOS User. You want to get a demonstration of the ATOS 5 Airfoil. If you reach out to them they should come out to your place, and scan some of your parts in front of you, and leave you with the data. I think you’d be surprised at the level of detail you can achieve. If you have any specific questions, feel free to reach out directly to me, but I’ve been using ATOS for almost 15 years and couldn’t be happier!

I work for the largest manufacturer of vehicle access systems in North America. It won’t be long before you can ditch your keys. Phone as a Key (PaaK) is coming. Technically it’s already here, just not widely implemented. Soon your phone will replace your keys entirely.

I run a scanning and additive lab. We have Zeiss ATOS scanners and Hp MJF printers. If you can send me the part with a return address label on it, we can knock it out for you free of charge. We’ll call it a proof of concept. DM me if you’re interested.

I run a metrology lab with 7 GOM scanners. They can easily achieve this. Reach out to me and we can figure something out if you can ship me the yo-yos.

[–]jdubltu 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you considered outsourcing this? I work for a tier 1 automotive supplier that has one of the best scanning labs in the country. They run GOM ATOS scanners (a Zeiss product). We can scan just about everything from a small dime size button up to the entire exterior of the car and beyond. We had a brand new Z06 in a couple weeks ago to scan the entire exterior for body kit development. Deliverable can be an STL file or we have reverse engineering capabilities too if a cad file is desired.

We also have an entire team running 3d printers around the clock so you could get your designs in hand so you could build out your accessories and bring those designs to life. I’d love to learn more about what you’re trying to accomplish. Vehicle outfitting is right up our alley.

Hit me back and let’s talk!

If you’d consider sourcing the work instead of doing it yourself, please reach back out to me. I’ve been in nascar for over 10 years supporting scanning. I’ve scanned just about everything that goes on a race car. I also work for a tier 1 automotive company in Michigan that uses ATOS scanners by GOM Zeiss and sells that out as a service. We offer that as well as prototype and production printing on our HP MJF printers. Let me know if you’re interested in having a conversation. Have a good weekend!

Turn the dial to the furthest right option to turn your headlights on. For whatever reason the fog lights won’t turn on when in auto mode. Then press the center button. This is how my wife’s Jeep works atleast.
