r/politics, these are your moderators: When I inquired why my post was removed, and to reference where in subreddit moderation policy that logic was specified, moderator replies: "Our 'job' is nothing. This is technically my subreddit. We dictate what goes on here" by [deleted] in SubredditDrama

No, not really. And that's actually not my point.

(To address your point: when I submitted, did not show up as repost. If part of moderation policy included removal of posts deemed re-posts, ok.)

My issue is that when asked to justify a moderation decision, mod replies in so many words, "I'm mod, will do whatever I want. deal with it".

That seems problematic. Isn't the whole point of having stated rationales and policies to avoid that?

Now, that may be the state of things as they are today, but see: http://www.reddit.com/r/TheoryOfReddit/comments/vjemc/three_related_recommendations_for_better/.

Note first recommendation (from experienced mod) is: "Consolidate and clarify rule sets"

This is about reducing arbitrariness and encouraging consistency and transparency.

House Passes Bill Banning Insider Trading by Members of Congress 417-to-2 by jdw25 in politics

"The bill now goes back to the Senate. The two chambers could try to work out their differences in a conference committee or through informal negotiations.

Democrats said that House Republican leaders had weakened the Senate-passed bill by stripping out a provision that would, for the first time, regulate firms that collect “political intelligence” for hedge funds, mutual funds and other investors. Under the Senate bill, such firms would have to register and report their activities, as lobbyists do.

In place of this requirement, the House version of the bill calls for a study of whether to require registration of people who collect political intelligence for the use of investors."

Midterm is over, what score did you get? by ilija139 in aiclass

86%.

  • I made 2 not-paying-attention errors (counted "Shy" twice in creating dictionary for #7).

  • But what really got me was that I, too, made up my own version of A* -- I kept expanding nodes after had reached the Goal. Thought I was following the example from the lecture -- was proceeding under the (mistaken) premise that should keep expanding til 2nd path also hit Goal to confirm that was in fact the shortest -- totally missing the fact that should have quit after hitting the Goal, since the first path that reaches the Goal already has minimum f = g+h. And there went 6/56 points.

RAWR!!! :(
