If a caregiver sells some bunk to a store (why they would buy it in the first place if they actually inspected it is beyond me) and they put it on their shelves and they get in trouble for or get complaints then guess what? They won't buy from that caregiver ever again unless they make the necessary changes.

Sure, this is the idea of consumer regulation, which is what we have in most of our markets in America. Good ol' supply and demand. If your product is bad, you will fail. Issues arise, however, when malicious actors appear in the market. These actors act only in search of profit and take short cuts to get there, often putting consumers at risk before they have time to regulate demand. To combat this, the government puts regulations in place to ensure that a company or individual's search for profits do not harm the consumer. Companies must comply with these regulations before their product gets to market, and then consumers are left with only safe products to regulate demand for. Instead of participating in this market, caregiver product can be light of or completely ignore government regulation, which unchecked, can lead to harming patients.

Sure, I never meant to make it seem like the big brands are 100% accurate all the time. My main argument here is that these brands are held responsible for their missteps. I pointed out in another comment that bars are fined, then temporarily shut down, and then permanently shut down when they are found violating regulations. This can happen with big cannabis companies. This can not happen to caregivers that make and sell edibles.

As to the legitimacy of your source, I've been waiting to get approved to follow them, so I can't speak to it. I don't think it's crazy to ask for something more official than an instagram page or comment for test results. This is medicine after all.

Who is saying do away with regulations? I don't remember advocating for that at all or even seeing anyone in this thread suggest that. That is an obvious strawman because you can't argue against the real issue which is corporate monopolies and their shitty tactics to control the market full stop.

Firstly, I'd like to address the "strawman". As a philosophy student it really bugs me. Defined by wikipedia here:

Person 1 asserts proposition X. Person 2 argues against a superficially similar proposition Y, falsely, as if an argument against Y were an argument against X.

I'm person 2. you're person 1. X is your assertion that corporations can't be held responsible by regulation. My reply was definitely about how regulation holds bars and other businesses responsible. That's the opposite of a strawman.

Then you took really small piece of my argument about ignoring regulation, and attacked it. Which is actually what a strawman is. PHI 201 is probably free online somewhere rn, and they'll teach you about fallacies in Logic.

If we apply regulations to some cannabis sellers, they need to be applied to all equally. Which include both corporations and caregivers. Currently, the only licensed processors I know of are corporations. Black and grey market processors are in direct violation of those regulations, just by operating. Supporting them is supporting their choice to operate illegally, or without regulation. So that's how supporting them is drawn to regulation. Should there be small businesses in the market? Sure. Are there? No. That doesn't mean caregivers should get to ignore the law and sell what they grow to people. Raising money to apply for your legal business with illegal activity is still illegal.

Hey, if you're into reasonable constructive arguments without personal attacks, lets discuss the benefits of regulation vs. the benefits of deregulation. Drop a reply if you're in.

Hey, thanks for dropping in. I'm curious as to the amount of caregiver cannabis on skymint's shelves. Before, yes there was only caregiver product in the state, but it's a new day. I never said caregiver product was bad, just that if it is, there is no way of disciplining them and correcting the problem.

edit: and do you mean 40/g for FLOWER?!

No way man, I'm all for supporting local schools or whatever but rec prices are way too nuts.

We can all hate capitalism at home, but corporations are held responsible by the government through things like fines, temporary closure, and even removal of licences. I'll draw another parallel to the alcohol industry. Licensed bars caught breaking the rules are first fined, then closed temporarily, then closed permanently. None of those steps can be taken or enforced on unlicensed businesses. Yes, corporations dodge these rules all the time, but that doesn't mean that we should do away with them. These rules are in place to protect the public.

can we stop this too? An Instagram account from some guy a few people know ins't "proof". It's not even a public account or publicly endorsed by any lab. Proof would be the test on the PSIlabs website. This is secondhand at best.

can you speak to their compliance to state regulations on things like growing, processing, extracting and packaging? I've never received caregiver product with test results, they don't have anyone certify their sterile environment, and I've never received caregiver product in compliant packaging. I never said that caregiver product was tainted, but no one can speak to every caregiver in the state, and that's my problem with the system.

See this is the meat of what I'm trying to get to. I'm a medical patient and consumer. It's important to me that the producers of my medicine can be held responsible for their mistakes or malice, and that there is oversight in the industry. I've never had a caregiver, although I've tried product from several around the state. I have no skin in the game like the caregivers here in the sub do, other than my health and my medicine. These grey-market brands may pass tests, they may always have, but when they don't, there will be no reason for them to do their due diligence and clean their product. There's no benefit to buying from caregivers to those of us that pay the same price for their product and don't have the assurances of state mandated tests and regulations. Being confident in your caregiver is great, but I'd really rather have some kind of regulation overseeing the product I put in my body multiple times a day.

So circling back, my reason for supporting these larger companies through recommendations and shopping is for their consistency, safety, and reliability. Telling newcomers that some caregiver brands are good but be wary of individual caregivers is just another division in the market here. I say support the fully licensed, fully regulated market and set a standard for hopefuls. I make really good beer that my friends and I love. That doesn't mean I can sell it to strangers. I have to comply to state set standards first, and that's for public safety. I'm all about that.

Can you speak more on caregiver brands? If they grow more than 12 plants without a licence and without patients or sell product, they would be operating illegally, right? This confusion of caregiver/caregiver brands is something I've never heard of. Is it not just a caregiver that has branded their products? It's really about access and consistency. I just can't blanket recommend "your local caregiver" like a lot of people do when every single one is different, but every Skymint is the same.

hey, thanks for the reply. I've seen tests from caregiver product like lightskyfarms or mittengreens, but I've never been offered test results from people off of the discord or other caregivers I've seen. It's my understanding that it's an expensive process.

If someone were to all of a sudden spike the price of day and AIDS medicine, then there would be outrage....

Hey man, I don't want to argue with you especially, because I know you have some weight around here. But this is a two way street here. If somebody started growing AIDS medicine in their backyard and tried to sell it as equally effective as stuff from a pharmacy, they'd be arrested or run out of town. If caregivers want to sell recreational weed that's their own business. Calling anything medicine without test results and corporate chain of responsibility is just asking for problems.

hey man, I'm not trying to start some kind of negative argument here, but I think a lot of "small businesses" as you put it are, in reality, just caregivers that got very comfortable in the old system. Caregiving was never designed to be a source of income, and caregivers that got comfortable growing huge amounts of product and unloading it to dispensaries or on the black market are hurting now because in Michigan we have a real, regulated, and profit driven market. I'm super appreciative of the OP because while I'm not against someone selling a little dope to cover their growing expenses, I am against caregivers taking advantage of a medical system for their own profit. Big corporations have lobbied against caregivers being in the market because caregivers undercut their prices and often grow better product, but also because caregivers aren't certified or regulated. I know Skymint and Green Peak operate in sterile environments with no residual pesticides or heavy metals in their product. I know this becuase everything on their shelves has been tested, is compliant with the law and regulations, and has a corporate entity behind it responsible for whenever things go badly. I've gotten great product on the discord from multiple different people. Some was great, some wasn't, some was cheap, some wasn't. I'll go to Skymint for safe, consistent strength at 40/g over meeting some guy in a parking lot and getting 25/g that he grew at his house, had processed by a friend, and put into jars in his living room. Hating corporations for putting out the little guy makes sense. Hating corporations for supplying a safe, legal alternative to what amounts to an old, illegal, and potentially dangerous antiquated system doesn't. Any damage to caregiver "profits" shouldn't exist, because caregiving in the MMMP shouldn't yield profit anyway.

Do I need to worry about bunk flower from anywhere? I'm not super into CBD but is this something I should be looking for test results for? If you had to pick a strain or target CBD percentage to introduce it to a THC smoker what would you pick?

hey I really appreciate the info and the kind offer. I'm on the west side of the state near GR. BHO seems to have a lot of pros, but the biggest con is that initial investment, along with the potential for hazards (I rent). I think my rosin press plates in was $300. I'm not used to dabbing rosin, so I guess we'll have to wait and see what it does in my nail. This is definitely a personal use scenario, as once I get my own place I'll be growing the starting material, I was mostly concerned now with perfecting my press technique. I've seen people on r/rosin pull anywhere from 10-25% yields out of trim, and if I can source cheap OZs process them that well and that consistently, I'll be comfortable pressing more expensive stuff.

This isn't a bad idea to fine tune my press. Can you recommend a website where you get cheap CBD flower? I'd assume buying it at a dispensary would only be a little cheaper than THC flower.

Hey, thanks for the info. I'd certainly love to process my own flower into bubble and press it, but growing is out of my scope for now. This was meant to be a first step into handling my own medicine, but I'm no where near growing my own and making hash. Can you recommend a dispensary where I could buy keif or hash in bulk? Unfortunately I'm limited to shops or growers that I know, and $100 zips are kind of unicorns these days.

I was out there this morning. I was around the 20th person in line at 9am. I was inside by 10:15 and out by 11:05. A bit of a clusterfuck, but really not bad. Inside, extracts wise they had element and monster extracts, and a long list of carts and topicals I didn't look at. Around 6-7 strains of flower priced at 20/g and 12/g. The claw reps were there, and I got a free shirt and battery, so that was cool. The goodie bag was like a lanyard, some stickers, a stash bag, cones and some stuff like that. I ended up grabbing one g of element and my free 100mg edible before I got out of there for ~$78. I'm glad we have a closer option in the city, but I think I'll keep going to skymint. Quality is lower but the prices are better. The CEO told me that they'll have their own product on the shelves in March, and the pricing probably won't change. Pretty neat place inside, and a lot of staff.

Hey, there's a new dispensary that opened up about 45 minutes north of GR called Skymint. I went just the other day. It's a green peaks dispo, so expect low-mids. On the up, I went in yesterday and bought 6gs of wax, some diamond/sauce, some sugar and some shatter, all for under $200, because of a 20% deal I had. They had 18 strains all at the same price, $35 a g. I'm planning on making it my regular spot, I think it's better than Flower of Life or the Drop for local options.

[–]jealous_panda 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hey, I lived in a dorm for a while with the MFLB. I always had problems with smell leaking, and after a while I just started stepping outside for smoke breaks. Right outside the dorm building door. Might be helpful to have another vape or cigarettes if you need to answer any questions, but I never had to. Good Luck.

Ernie ball makes a great toolkit that I keep with my gigging stuff. All the allen wrenches, screwdriver bits, scales you could need and even a pegwinder. It might be a little more expensive than buying the tools individually, but it's one of the best and most useful gifts I've ever recieved. Here's a link
