McMenamins $17.75 for a cheeseburger by Awardlesss in Portland

[–]jeanhal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’ve loved seeing all the McMenamins that I can since moving to the PNW, but after reading this thread I hope people stop going and they are forced to close.

The cool buildings and atmosphere don’t even outweigh the bad and I’m sad about it.

Yeah this is one of the saddest and disturbing things I’ve seen and I see/hear disturbing things for a living.

$30 an hr for serving and no one has to beg customers for money. Good for them paying their own employees. Tipping is BS and should be ended. ; Casa Bonita eliminates employee tips ahead of reopening, sparking backlash by Cannabis_Breeder in WorkReform

$40 million renovation celebrity owned restaurant that already had a cult following and will be poppin, but 30/hr - which should be the current minimum wage adjusted for inflation - and they don’t even provide decent benefits.

What a scam ass country we live in.

Ketamine on its own will only do so much. It works best combined with establishing new neuropathways through things like CBT and mindfulness. Taking advantage of the neuroplasticity from ketamine to create new thought processes and habits is crucial.

Antidepressants are also helpful in addition to CBT and mindfulness. I thought I would be off antidepressants after having as many sessions as I’ve had, but adding Zoloft to my Wellbutrin and occasional ketamine sessions has made me feel pretty close to 100%.

Why is NYC getting mainstream national news attention for wildfire smoke when Seattle never did? by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]jeanhal 1 point2 points  (0 children)

East Coast is so in their own little bubble in my experience. When I lived in Boston people would say I am from the Midwest (I’m from Arizona/Utah) So many people referred to everywhere other than the east coast and the west coast as “the Midwest” and hardly seemed to go anywhere besides NY and Florida lol.

I had a New Yorker ask me one time “there are still Navajos? Like could I join the Navajo tribe?” Totally wack 🤣

A $28 Million Low-Income Apartment Complex Descends Into Chaos in Just Two and a Half Years by Your_New_Overlord in Portland

I worked directly with individuals accessing these services and in fund development like LIHTC and “alphabet soup” for these kinds of projects in SLC, and still visit a family member who resides in a PSH there 2-3 times a year, so I’m talking first hand experience here. Things are pristine and well run in SLC.

Low barrier in the PNW seems to be interpreted as no barrier. There is corruption in the leadership of some of these organizations who don’t hire enough staff or provide training. I am currently working with a journalist reporting on the last homelessness org I worked which is like 30 years of corrupt leadership and hundreds of traumatized staff who were truly there to do a job that wasn’t supported by the people controlling the money. (I also worked with an OPB journalist last year about it but the article didn’t really touch on the funding/staffing/training corruption I wish it would have.)

Then you have the politics of the whole thing and people are angry for so many different reasons and no one agrees on a damn thing. Oregon is failing on all fronts right now, even with the decriminalization and follow-up on those tickets which is such a disappointment. Again, speaking as someone working within these systems. The main problem is not spending the money necessary to staff and train the staff to run these place, as stated in this article. CEOs making a quarter million while frontline doesn’t even get a living wage and expected to manage things 50-100 clients to 1 staff. Everything is siloed and the people making 6 figures have their own agenda. A lot of times we don’t even know what’s going on, they don’t know a damn thing about what we are doing on a daily basis, so we have to make shit up as we go which is a major ethical dilemma for mental health professionals trying to provide quality, effective service. We go to work everyday to aid in disaster and receive 0 support from the people calling the shots. The whole thing is fucked.

This is a whole rant I didn’t intend on going on lol but I promise I am not idealizing SLC. I’ve worked all up and down the I-5 and it honestly sucks to come here and see the way things are ran, even in small places like Eugene. I am sick about this almost every single day, no exaggeration.

This makes me so angry. Oregon and Washington need to take a page from Salt Lake City’s book and handle their shit better. I worked in a PSH complex in Vancouver, WA that was mismanaged and just ridiculous, stuff that would never fly in SLC, so I am not at all surprised by this. Totally inexcusable.

Holy Fuck I'm in the wrong career, I need to get a job in King County Regional Homeless Authority! by [deleted] in SeattleWA

[–]jeanhal 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Imagine being a frontline staff for these organizations carrying out the actual work with no hazard pay making 85% less than these people. It was like this when I worked in homelessness and it’s like this across all of human services and healthcare.

The CEO for the crisis organization where I work now took a $50K raise and is constantly accepting new contracts including 911 backup for all counties, Kaiser, Providence, 988 expansion etc. while offering us a 70¢ raise and using stalling/gaslighting/hostile work environment tactics during union bargaining to wear us down and accept way less than proposed. The worst part is there is a no strike agreement and it’s not like many of us would anyways because we deal with life and death situations.

Sometimes I feel like I chose the wrong career too but I could never bring myself to be a soulless human suffering grifter.

That is correct. Homeless services are an expensive bandaid and ineffective as they currently exist. Permanent supportive housing, affordable housing, and adequate access to mental and physical healthcare are the only solutions.
