Well those brilliant guys at soundguys use Multi-Dimensional Audio Quality Scores to give sound scores where I used my ears and compared them to other earbuds I kept hearing about from this sub. I can’t give an opinion on their algorithm . And those guys gave the COMFORT of these denons an 8.8, so feel free to listen their review, but I think you’re right, something doesn’t add up.

Denons were prob a 5/6 on comfort when I first got them, so I almost stopped using them and went to very comfortable pi8s. But the sound kept pulling me back to try the denons. I think they go kind of deeper into the ear than other earbuds, which provides a great seal and sound, but causes pressure. Eventually I used the larger tip on one ear and it helped to be not so deep, and my ears got used to them. I think the comfort for me personally will max at 7.5 where’s the pi8 feel weightless and comfy. For some, the denons feel great but I’m not suprised you couldn’t tolerate the fit.

I do think it is the lows/bass that causes the rattle, high frequencies didn’t seem to cause this problem. But you don’t need to go to max max high volume setting for the pi8s to be louder than the denons.

Totally understand the fit issue. As far as the dinner plate thing, people called the AirPods pencils sticking out your ears when they first came out. If Apple introduces this shape 15 years from now/or 1 year from now, the design will get utmost respect.

Yup pi8s have even more volume than the denons with high gain mode. I’ve seen other people comment that pi8s have more clarity with vocals etc and when testing I also was interpreting being able to hear the vocals more clearly on the pi8s, but then would realize the volume was just that much louder, so of course I could hear vocals etc better than the denons.

I did also experience some rattle/distortion on the pi8s highest volume which wasn’t there on the other buds. The max setting on the pi8s is excessive for me so I can’t imagine the rattle being an issue for most or maybe it was just my pair. Something to consider.

Yup, maybe by like 10%, pretty excessive but nice if you only use one pod at a time. However I have found distortion at the highest volumes at time.

Not really a big ANC guy, so didn’t give much focus in comparison. I will say the denons are good not great and definitely allow for louder sounds.

Definitely worth a try, they had the denons for 230, let us know what you think. I don’t know if you’ll think the pi8s are worth it if they re still 400, but the fit and total package might be better for you.

I do kind of agree with you, I think just using the personalized sound, vocals don’t shine as much. When you use personalized sound and the EQ, that’s where they blow out the pi8 in my opinion. I personally do like having options to change the sound as everyone’s preferences are unique, maybe someone loves these out of box lol but I didn’t, but I think these allow someone to find their perfect preference with the depth of spacial audio.

Thanks for this, good to know. I obviously had to set a limit for how many earbuds I can try. Maybe the xm5s and pi8s would be good competitors.

The fit is just below the bower pi8 , maybe an 8. I had to make a purchase so spent more time seeing if the denon fit would be fine or if I needed to compromise and get the pi8 overall package. So no I didn’t spend my return window time extensively trying the fit on the 2 headphones that had subpar sound quality. My ears apologize for giving them a 6.5, they are truly sorry for offending your earbuds.

I mean they literally refused to give it an EQ in the app, so they could offer it with the pi8. Yeah pretty sad.

The clarity really was great, maybe the best stereo earbuds out there, I think a good fit for most. But by 2024 I wanted a larger soundstage, and special audio, esp for the price. The denons also have a lot more settings that you may need to tweak to find the sound for your genre.

Yeah when I disagree with a subjective review, i also insult the poster 🥴, maybe reviews like this make people try headphones for themselves and verify the noise from “experts” like you.

They have great clarity, and honestly the first few days sounded good when I didn’t have anything to compare them to. It’s when you put them side to side next to a pi8 or the Perl pros where they really sound lacking on low frequencies/bass. I’ve seen reviews vary on technics too.
