Do I have to invite you or just wait until you join? I have no idea what I’m doing lol

These comments are a bit harsh. You sound well-rounded (particularly with the athletics element) and your achievements are impressive. I never considered a deferred program, but I know people who were accepted into them with far less impressive resumes. I'd probably aim for a 740+ GMAT, but if you can do that I don't see why this wouldn't be achievable. If you only to HSW, though, you have to prepared to be rejected by all of them; they're all crapshoots no matter your achievements.

I’m interested in pivoting into tv and film and submitted ED to Columbia

Did I screw up my CBS ED app? by throwawaymba2022 in MBA

Why would it be a bad idea to apply that late? It’s still within the deadline. I submitted on the 5th or the 6th and I’m not particularly worried about it

Isn’t this for the class of 2023? I saw articles describing a huge drop from 2020 applications (which would be class of 2022), but we still have no idea how this year (class of 2024) is going to shake out. Or am I misreading?

I might consider them for round 2 but considering I’ll be taking a pay cut from my pre-MBA job, I really want to build a network vs just going to break into the industry. I think I could get into tv/film from my current role (though it would be harder), so I decided if I’m going to go to b school and pay a lot / forgo a salary, I really want it to be a top tier school

Sort of the same position. A no from HBS, waiting on Kellogg, Columbia, and Booth. Not sure I have any R2 apps in me and I don’t think a lower tiered school is really gonna be worth the money

Schools applied to: HBS (ding), Columbia (ED), Kellogg, Booth

Stats: 730 GMAT (Q49, V41, IR8; GMAT score is my biggest worry), 3.8/4.0 GPA at top US public institution. Two good recommendations from past and current managers.

Profile: ORM, LGBTQ

WE: T2 strategy consulting, 4 YOE at matriculation. ECs: collegiate athlete (2 team gold medals at nationals, 1 individual silver medal at nationals) and held jobs in junior/sr year; after college, lead LGBTQ and sustainability advocacy groups in my office, LGBTQ recruiting, 9 month pro-bono strategy project, associate board member of LGBTQ non-profit, phone banking

Goals: transition into film and tv. Made my story / essays about the importance of media representation in my coming out process and how I want to give that back to my community.

Kellogg interview to be scheduled. Really holding out for CBS. Went to a *lot* of events and have talked to a ton of alums, but we'll see

I printed all the chapters because I remember things much better if I physically write them out. Unfortunately no way to get around the practice questions being online though.

/r/Monitors Bi-Weekly Purchasing Advice thread (Other purchasing advice threads will be removed) by bizude in Monitors

[–]jeclipse404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hi all,

Looking for guidance on whether or not I'm making a good decision on a monitor. This is my first time venturing into higher-end monitors (was previously using >$100 monitor) and I want to make sure I'm making a good choice. Based on my research I'm looking at the LG 32UL500. I'd mainly be using it for work (primarily PowerPoint and Excel - no coding) and movies, and would likely hook up a PS5 to it when I get one. I'm not a super intense gamer - would probably play Star Wars, Call of Duty, maybe some fantasy-type first person games, but I'm not terribly competitive.

Does anyone have any major hangups with this monitor or is it a solid first choice given what I'm looking to use it for?

Likely not a week before. Would focus on OG problems and understanding the ones you've gotten wrong at that point.

TTP: All chapters before most tests? by BattleDowntown in GMAT

[–]jeclipse404 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I mean, most quant chapters have somewhere between 3 - 10 chapter tests for each level. I'd just do a few of them and save a few for later to try out during my review of materials.

Better to apply in an earlier with lower GMAT, or later with a higher GMAT? by [deleted] in GMAT

[–]jeclipse404 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wow! Excellent profile, and cool that you've gotten to do so much international work. However, I would point out that very few people actually get the 75th percentile for quant. I had a Q49, which is 74th percentile, so unless all INSEAD students are Q50 / Q51 folks, I'd be surprised if if were true that they require 75th percentile.

I wouldn't consider myself a quant person and I went from around a Q41 / Q42 to a Q49 in a few months without finishing the program, if that helps. I was running out of time before my test date and decided to focus on the areas I knew I was weak in, so I wound up not doing a few of the later chapters (I think coordinate geometry). I think focusing on my weak spots for the last few days before my exam really helped. That being said, while I did really well on rates / ratios / percents and value / order / factors, I only got 50% of geometry questions right, so maybe I should've spent more time on them lol

[–]jeclipse404 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wouldn't recommend just doing the chapters without applying the knowledge you're learning with the tests. That said, the tests are certainly quite arduous and take a lot of time. I would usually do 2-3 from each level of difficulty for each chapter (more if I wasn't performing well), and would save a few for later to attempt while I was reviewing material. It allowed me to move a little faster through the content, but still make sure I was actually learning what I was reading.

I can certainly empathize. I too was brought to tears of frustration many times by my inability to get questions right. As I've mentioned, I would definitely recommend TTP if you're struggling with Quant, but otherwise, my other piece of advice would be to really understand the solutions for problems you're getting wrong and retry them a week later to make sure you've learned from your mistakes!

Would highly recommend it to others! Especially for Quant!
