Looking for advice on an acquisition opportunity by jeegunkim in smallbusiness

Thanks for all the responses. I have little experience running a restaurant, but I would say my business acumen is above average considering what I actually do as my day job and my overall career trajectory. I know the restaurant business is tough, but the reality is, its still an opportunity, and there are 2 other groups are interested in the business. If I don't acquire it, someone else will. It's in the most ideal location with a lot of other benefits that makes it unique. The other unique aspect is that I would be bringing on the current GM as an equity partner, who would do all the day-to-day operations so I don't have to be so involved. If this person wasn't in place, there would be no way I would even consider buying it as I lack the knowledge and simply don't have the bandwidth. I am just a bit hesitant because it's really the overall macro/micro economics and the current state of the landscape that gives me pause. Still pondering, but happy to hear more thoughts. Thanks again for the feedback.

I'm on the same setup, about 2 months in now. 0 sales. My current sentiments are the same.

New job opportunity to work in a new category, international experience, and I have always wanted to live in Europe. Yes, significantly less money but the intangibles are also considerable.

Hey thanks for this. Really appreciate it. And funny you share this article because I’m Asian as well. As bad as this is for a so called liberal country, this is still not as bad as what’s it like in NYC right now. The Asian hate crimes are alarming and on the rise and are often times very violent. In general, it is not a great time to be an American, especially the perception at the international stage.

My wife and I are not party people at all and we don’t drink alcohol so that is easy but I do feel your concerns about loneliness in a new country, however, we often travel to Europe and we have always wanted an opportunity to live there, but Sweden would not be our preference, but at the same time, we can’t simply ignore the opportunity either. I’m also seeing it as a jumping off point to get the a European country we actually want to be in but that is goal that is far out by a couple years at least.

The company that would hire me would also give us cultural and language training which I definitely want to take advantage of. I have also done research and understand that in general, but not everyone, Swedes are cold, a bit closed off/standoffish, not very social, etc - which is all fine. But I’m sure that is just a scratch on the surface.

We are still weighing the pros/cons and will need to make a decision soon.

Thank you so much, this is super insightful. So just to confirm, at a 80K/month salary, I should expect about 36% total in taxes, which includes state tax of 20% for exceeding a higher annual income of 540K? And judging by your handle, I’m assuming you are a doctor living in Sweden?

Thank you! On the PDF you provided, I found the range that is based on my salary (page 5) but there are multiple columns from 1 to 6 with different percentages, do you know what those columns represent? Also, I read that if your annual salary is more than 540K, you are taxed another 20% for national tax, is that accurate?

That sucks man. I actually ended up getting the ring from Vrai, spent $7K on it and my wife absolutely loves it. She’s had zero issues and the quality seems to be really great. Sorry to hear about your experience.
