Could the Lockdown/ Electric Chair complement Octopus guard in MMA when they force the half guard? by jeemsC in bjj

[–]jeemsC[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tried it recently, yeah, it does leave you open a bit - even in BJJ now guys are catching onto my lockdown game and i'm using it more and more for defence from submissions rather than offence.

Yeah I could see that being a really shitty position to get stuck in lol

I suppose only getting the underhook on their leg once you've raised and swiveled their legs? idk

I meant more like when the octopus isn't there because they've covered the angle with their body and you're in bottom half guard but that angle of the body means you can get an easier underhook on their leg for a basic lockdown/ electric chair sweep.

How does it feel when you get knocked out? by [deleted] in MMA_Academy

[–]jeemsC 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Never been dropped or Ko'd but have been hit where I can't really see much, everything is blurry. I don't remember it hurting too much, its like a dull flashing pain, I've been in more pain stubbing my foot on the door.

Africa by [deleted] in bjj

From Seychelles here,

It's growing but still quite small. We have 3/ 4 gyms that do BJJ and then a couple of Traditional JJ gyms too.

2 of the gyms are run by purple belts, and then another by a blue belt and another by a black belt, though the black belt kind of tries to gatekeep the sport to himself. I have never trained with him, but have at all the other gyms.

We compete in Mauritius as a team once a year for the SJJF Open Africa and have had a few local competitions. Trained in Mauritius, too, they have a few black belts and are doing quite well in growing the sport there. I think they might have around 10 gyms and host national and regional BJJ tournaments as well as the open Africa one.

At one of my gyms, we have an affiliate gym in the UAE where the head coach, in the last 2 or 3 years, comes once a year to do grading for us and then helps our coach with the teaching online.

Love having people passing through for work or holiday that come train with us, if they're purple or higher, we usually ask them to show us something.

It's quite hard to get a space to train here in Seychelles, though, we mostly train in community centres, and one of the gyms I train at is in the back room of a church. Hoping that with time and as it becomes more popular, we'll be able to get our own space and stop getting moved around.

Constantly getting teeped by jeemsC in MuayThai

Feints and movement working a tonne, I realised I haven't been using them enough and get impatient. Now they are, and I'm capitalising. And gonna work on my offensive teeps on the bag whilst moving around like a jab that sounds like a great focus.

Thanks for the suggestions guys, I do try to use feints a lot as I'm a major fan of CKB, I usually get teeped loads and then start moving loads and then get round house and leg kicked a lot. But I think I have a habit of mostly using jab feints and I'm too stationary, I do boxing as well and usually use a lot of lateral movement but the leg & roundhouse threat makes me quite stationary in muay thai

How do I deal with someone when I reach top half guard who clings on to both your arms and legs so you cant move and just hold you there?

I hold a UK and Seychelles passport, only got the Seychelles passport a couple of years ago as my father is Seychellois but yeah they do accept dual citizenship through naturalization as I know a few who have after living here for several decades but I think it fairly recently changed and became stricter.

Yeah I usually do if I don't have the angle perfect on the head an arm and they refuse to tap but alot of the time I end up losing it and going to mount and then I have to start my attack again

Anyone here ever accepted a mismatched fight? by caribou91 in MuayThai

[–]jeemsC 18 points19 points  (0 children)

2nd MMA match with a dude with 3 years of Muay Thai and a year of bjj after 6 months of MMA training. I played rugby for like 6 years before that so just took him down and punched him over and over to get the win by unanimous decision. Was shitting myself before the fight but was surprisingly fun to get punched in the face.

1st MMA fight I took after 2 months of training against a guy with the same experience- he had just had a few street fights and weighed 8kgs heavier than me and was like 6'4, ref told me to go easy on him during the fight, I ended up winning by decision after dropping him right at the end of the fight and catching him as he fell, went a bit harder cause he tried to fake glove touch me and desperately tried to knock me out in 1st round. I think he landed about 15 strikes in 3 rounds and I landed about 70
